Hi y'all Ghettoblaster Rappers & Hip Hoppers, just a 15 y/o Teenager here who takes a passion for Wolves and Audio. Especially Boomboxes/Ghettoblasters.

I'm interested in getting into the hobby, and am just getting started. I currently own a 1990 General Electric 3-5667A, a Sanyo U4S6 from the 90's, and a 1979 Sanyo M9909... yeah, nothing special. But I do have a video for at least two of them. Since my Galaxy S9's 64GB internal Storage is filled to the brim and therefore I can't really upload the third video to YouTube, Images will have to do.

Aside from these cheap Cassette recorders, I also have a few Modern 'Ghettoblasters' which aren't cheap crap. An Aiwa Exos-9 (9002) with the onboard DSP Compressor removed, and without the grille (although I do have it) so it looks real badass. Have a few videos on it as well.

The other 'modern' Ghettoblaster is a Parts Express Executive 200 Watt Bluetooth speaker kit. It's a nice way to get into DIY, but I ended up slapping the stock 12V Dayton Audio LBB-3 Battery module in there, and the Tang Band W5-1139SMF driver that came included is ridiculously inefficient, so it clips real easily. Replacing the 12V module with a more powerful one would be difficult to do, as you don't get much room to work with and I already cherish my Exos-9 vastly more. However I can't take it apart to reuse the parts, and my mother is currently the user of the device. So I'm simply just not going to screw with it.

But of course, here's a video of that damned thing when I finished it:

Anyway, that just about wraps it up for my glorious Introduction. Hope y'all got a good chuckle or two out of it.

Hellz yeah, that Aiwa is a beast for its weight. But what's this about the DSP? How did you identify and remove it?

See here. Scroll down till you see instructions on how to Remove the DSP Compressor: https://aiwa.co/pages/exos-9-firmware-upgrades

The sound quality becomes literal night and day. It sounds smoother, and it will pound when you want it to. It doesn't sound like the compressor is trying to squeeze out all of the heavy bass.

If you have the Exos-9, I'd also set the EQ to preset 2. It's not V-shaped but it provides the most well-rounded bass without compromising the mids or the highs. Kinda delivers a Concert-like sound depending on where you have it sitting in the room.

(I'd Recommend you update the Firmware before you proceed with the deletion)

Welcome aboard, madadh! I like that Sanyo M9909 you have, and it appears to be complete. Also, that view you have is gorgeous!

Hah, thanks. I'm also on Audiokarma, as "Romeo Wolf". I'm particularly well known there.

Welcome to the site! There's no such thing as "cheap" recorders. Its nice you saved them from being tossed out. Nice view indeed! It is 112º here these days. I'm already thinking of moving!

I actually bought them all at the same Antique store for $32-$45. I Overpaid for one or two of them, if not all three. I just become desperate to purchase something after a few months of surfing the Goodwills and Antique stores and ****. You name it.

Glad to see you here, welcome! Have you checked out Goodwill's outlet center on 117th in Vancouver? Cheaper than normal Goodwills and way more to sift through. Every hour they wheel out new stuff. You'll easily find more boxes similar to the ones you already have. I've found dozens at their west-side outlet over the last couple years, all in the $3-$15 range.
