I don't care how ugly some people say you are...i just think that you were ahead of your time when released and still are present day. Your day for appreciation will come.
Picked up this M80 for $40 off the bay. Poor listing description. Cosmetically it's really good... only downer is the deck (of course)... twin motor?
Regardless...the synthesizer tuner is worth having on a box by itself... very unique.

How does the M80 relate size wise against the M70? And weight too? I reckon the M80 weighs 7-8kg... pretty decent.

It would be pretty cool if it had a long lost Canadian cousin with proper round grills sort of like the 656C version.

decent box the M80 scotty despite it's reputation in the looks department, i quiet like it.
i can say it,s built like a tank, goes really loud with crisp highs but lacks bass.
although it may not match the M70 for sound, it sure does for build, i can tell you it cost more than the m70 when new so must have some great quality's.
congrats on a great box

Congrats! You made a fine purchase. [/b] Great looks[/b], even without chrome! These grills are sophisticated oldies like other JVC's have, and like RC-838 aka NORDMENDE RK-4186.

:-) I was thinking about buying that, it's a lovely unit. I want to mod one with nice round speaker rings. Cut away the waffle and see what I can make of it.

Looks wise it may not butter your parsnip but having never heard one ive always assumed for sound being an M80 it must land inbetween the 70 and 90?? if yes a good unit for 40bucks

I'm sure that cost increase on the M80 was that top end cassette deck. The M70 deck is so so with it's punch buttons. The M80's soft touch controls are like an iPad and the M70 deck controls are like a 1950's typewriter.

I do to, however, I think I prefer the M60's looks, not as top-heavy..

Any box in that condition for $40 is a bargain. I'm not huge fan of the grills but I bet it's a quality unit. I bet the deck will beautiful to use when you rebelt her!

Congrats,

James.... :-)

. Scotty, I am in the process of restoring my M80. I need to replace the belts and do a good contact and inside cleaning. Let me know if you have a service manual for it.
