Your thoughts on this little Sanyo M1700F?

I have a little Sanyo M1700F mono that nz_boom gave me, it seems to work in all respects except that when I press Play on the deck, the REC button seems to be stuck to the movement of the Play button.

Normally on these guys when you press REC, the Play button goes down as well. Press"Play" and "Rec" at the same time.....

Yeah but anyway, is there a way I can resolve this without resorting to the screw driver?

It's probably linkage stuck inside box. Taking it apart is best way to really see it. :yes: good luck :-)

Oh God, I don't want any more, I was trying to fix it to get rid of it lol.

Nice clean examples on Gumtree though.

For this little guy it's not normally for PLAY button to goes down when press REC .
When you push the REC button it should go up and down freely without stuck.
When you want to do some recording, you have to push both buttons PLAY and RECORD.
I just tested this functions on my M1700H and this is how they work.

So, definitely you have to use the screw driver to fix this. :-/
