Could be right there, I read here it was 1st manufactured 1979 :jawdrop:
Also 78900 YEN = £618.63 GBP in 1979 that works out about about £2000 GBP in todays money or $3176 USD :jawdrop: :jawdrop: :jawdrop:

Interesting thread Rick
I do not know about the other features you mentioned, but I think Sony was among the first who introduced the boombox with dual antenna.
The model is CF-580 from 1976. Probably the double antennas are originating from their high-end World Receiver radios.

Another early model with twin antennas is the JVC 9475LSB 1st manufactured in 1975 (I own one) :-D

This has to be a contender for one of the 1st stereo compact cassette recorders as well along with the the Sony CF-580 mentioned above :w00t:

First double deck for dubbing? I seem to remember these hitting stores around 1981?

Really would like a 600 series to go with it. This one was pretty beat up when I got it for a song. Future project, I guess. Needs a function switch, so it collects dust. :-/

The first Black Boombox......I would think it is the JVC RC550. Now the Sanyo M9998 looks sort of Black but maybe metallic or just very dark gray.

I know everyone is talking about the first slotted cassette deck. Conion C100 was 1984, my CEC OL7540 and AKA's was about the same time. Scott has a Marantz PMS8000 I believe with slotted deck too but I'm not sure of year. I do know there were many cheapy models that had this feature as well, plus Crown, Lasonic and Lloyd also had slotted decks

Here's another interesting first ? which model had first high speed dubbing dual deck system?

Oh and another first could be who had first outboard speed control pot for tape deck. This was a rarity and I know Big Ben has this feature ;-)

And still another, and I'm not sure if Sanyo was first with the M9998 deck having lighted background like on most expensive hi if decks
:hmmm:

Damn those are the best built ever boomers ( Norm can proof that too) . And the only boombox which was approved for studio master records and monitoring on cassette tapes is Sharp RD-688 AV. So if we are talking about build quality, quality of sound and record this one deffo is the ultimate boombox. Nice that is massively underestimated from the mainstream and not goin for lot of cash though  .
So Sharp RD-688 AV is first and the ONLY professional boomer approved for studio work  . Hope will snatch one some day :-P
