Can anybody please give some information on what is CIP for paying an ebay seller in Germany?
He has no Paypal and Bank Transfer is the only option available.

Thanks

I've always used bank transfer (Faster Payment Scheme) when dealing with eBayers in Germany, it's safe, secure and unless you enter the sort code and/or recipient's account number wrongly, you're covered against anything iffy.

German eBayers seem to favour faster payment scheme these days and IMHO, it's a good thing. I don't understand how UK-based sellers are so reluctant to follow Germany's lead.

Thanks a lot for your reply B10.

Can you pl. just elaborate, how it is safe and secure and is covered, compared to say Paypal wherein our money is handled by ebay and they have a way to refund in case if it goes wrong. In the case of bank transfer, we are directly transferring money to the buyer's account from our bank account, without going through ebay. So how ebay can cover it?

Banks will cover such transactions just as credit card lenders do, so if the payment is made and no goods received, then the bank's own claim form can be filled in and a refund generated as a result though in practice, I only had this problem once and that happened when a seller used my sort code and account number to set up a monthly direct debit to the SSPCA! I'm all for animal welfare but this was too far! So my bank (the Clydesdale at that time) refunded the money to my account and prosecuted the thieving scumbag. Paypal/eBay won't go that far to protect their customers' accounts, all they'll do is assist in the recovery of funds when there's a dispute over goods not received and the banks will do that too. It's much more secure than Paypal as the banks can overturn a transaction regardless of whether we provide proof of posting, tracking barcodes and such, where eBay won't refund when - by way of an example - someone collects an item and then claims that they paid by paypal but never received [said item] by the post. The seller then cannot provide a barcode so paypal automatically finds in favour of the dishonest buyer, banks will refund in these cases too, but this works for the honest buyers and eBay's way tends not to.

Thanks a lot John.

I believe you had a problem, when you gave you account details as a seller.
In this case, I am buying something. So I may not face that issue, other than a bad sale.
I am proceeding.
