So, I'm walkin' the dog in the dark last night.... and as I approach the house I hear whoo-whoo-whoo. I have this antenna station next to my house and there were two of these guys perched up there. Honestly, they are like 2ft tall!!!!! Those vertical antenna parts are at least 18"!!!! It was so dark the AF would not even think about working... So I had to manually focus. This is the sharpest of the 30 or so pics I snapped.

Just thought I'd share. The only owls I've ever seen in Florida were some tiny Burrowing Owls down in Cape Coral. These were massive!

That's a great picture, John! His eyes are freaking me out though. Sort of remind me of Christopher Lloyd's eyes at the end of Who Framed Roger Rabbit. It's probably a good thing you were with your dog that night. ;-)

Great pic man. It's amazing to watch these beautiful birds hunt. Their feathers are like cotton so, they make virtually no fapping noise to sneak up on their prey. Amazing! I struck one with my Patrol Charger as I was doing about 97 MPH. I guess I was making virtually no flapping noise either as I snuck up on him standing on the road. :w00t: :'-( :w00t: :'-(

That is a really cool owl and a great picture!! I have one that hangs out in my tree in the front yard that I see sometimes - but he is much smaller than this one.
