hard to believe -- :'-(

won this from an ebay seller who never sells big stuff --CDs and DVDs = mostly

so - i asked him to bring it to his local ups store for safe//insured packing-

he agreed -
then the ups idiot packer stuffed this nice old 22" radio into a 20" box --
at a 45 degree DIAGONAL --with some peanuts -- NO bubble wrap -
and total ZERO protection for all 4 corners -
just pressed against the cardboard :dunce: :dunce:

result == case broken - nothing powers up --ooodles of broken
parts inside

seller just now sent me a 100% refund -
and ups is picking it up today .. :annoyed: :annoyed:

wish i could get a partial refund --and use some parts -
but that was a no-go
----------------------------------------------

what a useless and sad ending --
some people suk !!!

That sucks

But why did the seller give you a refund? Shouldn't it be UPS's responsibility?

Any time a seller says that they will have UPS pack it, I cringe. They think they are doing the right thing, but in all reality more boomboxes are WASTED because of the way that UPS and other shipping companies pack their own stuff!!!!

Check out my messages for the M71 I just bought on epay:

Dear billymo5,

Please, please pack this boombox well. Try to get a lot of layers of bubble wrap on it and some packing peanuts too if you can. I really appreciate it, I want to enjoy this boombox and shipping companies have been really rough on the things we ship! Thank you so much, JOE.

Dear blu_fuz,

No problem I will bring it to the ups store and pack it really well, I tested the cassette deck and everything is in working order. Enjoy it as I have for many ears to come.

I feel for you. I am also worried for I just bought a box from ebay and asked the seller to ship it UPS (the default was USPS) And this seller also sells mostly little stuff.

The ONLY advantage to shipping via UPS store or packing companies is that it makes collection of insurance claims easier when damage occurs. UPS policy is that when damage occurs and it was packed through a 3rd party packer, it will not investigate YOUR packing method for claim purposes. Using such packers actually does NOTHING to reduce damage. Also, when shipped using packing service, the packer will charge not only a packing fee, but also charge a markup on the posted shipping fees for all shipping vendors. I personally feel it's far better to use any such funds saved from NOT using them to buy and use better shipping materials which actually does work to reduce shipping related damage.

In my experience, when an item is shipped using UPS and Fedex guidelines for packing (at least 2" cushion all around + new boxes (no recycled unless strong) and meeting specs for the contents boxed (see box certification on bottom of box), merchandise rarely ever gets damaged. Now, if UPS packing store would only follow their own shipping guidelines......

:agree: Completely, I have yet to have a box I've shipped get damaged because I pack the with multiple layers of bubble wrap and double box if at all possible. I've seen how these goofs pack at the UPS store so I stay away and do it myself.

So Ira, where do these broken boxes go? Any way to find out where this graveyard is? And, they sell their reclaimed stuff? The TSA or whatever agency has their "rummage sale" of their unclaimed baggage, etc don't they? Maybe find out, and get their broken grails? If it's a simple as them tossing it out tomorrow in their own dumpster, I'd be all over it Ninja style :ninja:
