Well I said I would and I finally did a video with both the Lasonic TRC931 2nd Edition against the TRC975. In the video I only use line in with same song using IPod. I set all settings about the same on both units. Sliders almost all the way up, volume at 4, and both LBS and loudness switch on. I really try not to take my boxes past 5 especially in da house
1st the 931 sounded better than I though it would. Had plenty of bass and highs. In the video I tested with line in but I also tested on my own both the radio and the deck and the 931 really let me down. Just didn't seem powerful enough even with volume up to 7 :-(
Next I tested the 975 and I was overwhelmed by the bass this puts out. Now when I turned off LBS the vibration stopped but that just shows that the LBS function is definetly a cool feature. Since I bought both units new I remember testing them both and was so amazed with the 975 size and sound over the 931. That was why I bought the 975 in the first place 20 years ago. Just like the 931 I also tested the radio and deck and the 975 blew the 931 away. With the volume set at 4 on 975 it was much more clearer in sound than the 931 and still was louder.
So in closing I also had a couple others listen as I tested and both my fiancé Jeannie and her son said the 975 was a much better sounding unit. I think, and I know Chris tried to improve on the vibration, but if that could be totally worked out the 975 would be so improved. Now the video was done with my iPhone so there is more feedback when both play from the mic but all in all I think it's a good comparison. Again these are only my opinions but now having two other people also agreeing with me I'm way more comfortable arguing that the 975 is louder and has way more bass than the 931. Enjoy the video
