Hey all, I’m seeking a working Vela Discolite with functioning speaker lights. I’m located in the US but am willing to pay for international shipping for the right boombox. Largely this will be used for an art project - but it’s hard finding one with working lights.

Thank you in advance!

There is one on Ebay UK right now, but be aware that the Discolite isn't made the best so they don't always travel well.

I saw one on EBay - UK but sadly they wouldn’t ship to the US. If you have a link to one that will feel free to share! Thank you

i just searched UK Ebay for the one i saw but it's gone, and there was one in Greece as well but that is also gone, i just saw another on ebay but it's in spain, the guy wants £2681, sorry but no way are they worth anything like that, they're ok but at the end of the day they are only cheap plastic radios, cheaply made and only average sound, i've owned about 3 over the years and i ended up selling them once i got bored of the lights. i sold my last one for £200, i bought it for £150, it needed a good clean and new belts, i gave it a good polish, replaced the belts so it was all clean and working. this modern boombox greed is getting out of control. then again it's not just the sellers, its the dummy buyers paying the silly prices

Looks decent but I don't like when a seller only has one picture and an AI description.
The clear film is bubbling/peeling off of the face.
Mine was doing the same thing, luckily I got it to peel cleanly off.

Thats true. You can always send a message and request a video/ask questions, or barter on the price. I doubt its going to move at his asking price. Ive never made a purchase at face value. Ntm he is in Missouri, so shipping is 50% across the US. Just thought i would respond to you.... GLWP

You can't negotiate an auction. It's north of $600 and could go even higher. They're one of the most sought-after boxes. If someone is willing to pay that much the only recourse is to outbid them, or wait around for a different seller that accepts offers.

I have one waiting to be refurbished so I'm just interested to see what it sells for.

It's funny, these (990, 7000 and other akas) rarely have 100% of the parts to them.
It seems like they're always missing at least one cassette door, a battery or light bulb access door or some/all of the lettering is missing.

My bad just noticed that...

That one on Ebay sold for $645, Yes it's Crazy i know, but this is the new price insanity. i reckon that was the best one though, all clean and complete, if i would have been you and wanting one of these, i would have bid on that one cos i've seen them sell for more than that. people seem to love them. why, i have no idea, think it's probably the pretty lights..

i fell for those discolite's though so i can't shlt on them too much because i bought one, twice, the pretty flashing fairy lights just got to me and i had to have one. but not everything is wonderful as it looks lol. Definitely Great to look at though, but i'll still never get over what people are willing to shell out for them. it's insane how the human brain works
