Why does Panasonic have to keep all the good stuff in Japan? I had an RX-DS20. It was ok, but not amazing. Cost me $350 new in 1990. It was the very definition of the term, "battery vampire." Opened it up a few times for repairs and saw that the PCBs were full of missing components, and that's how I learned that there was an RX-DS30. Apparently a model that was only available in the US, because I never saw one in Canada... only on eBay and Craigslist.

And now I find this...

Why must you torture me, Panasonic? :bang:

Don't even get me started on the RX-DT9. I need to get myself to Japan somehow and get some of these ultra cool units we never saw in North America.

Michael J. Fox could film a better video than that. :-P Nice looking machine though. :-)

I would LIKE to say nice looking machine. If only I could get an idea of what it looks like. Since I couldn't tell anything from that video except it has some cool tape operation LED's.

I have a DS-30. Like the remote feature on the 50 though. They probably sound the same.

Very nice... for a while there, I was thinking seriously about buying the schematics for the DS30 and converting my DS20. The cool thing is you can take the DS20 apart and see where the remote sensor and the volume control motor is supposed to go. I always assumed the DS30 had the remote.

Found some internal shots of the DS50 - same speakers as the 30 and the 20. They probably do sound alike, though my DS20 didn't have any tape bias setting abilities. That's probably why I was never happy with the tape deck in it.

There are some mentions of a DS40 too on the net, but I've never even seen pics. That one may not have ever been released... who knows.

Personally, I'll probably call myself lucky if I even find the DS30, let alone the 50. There's another DS20 up on eBay, but I had one of them for 12 years. Don't need another one.
