Hi,

so i have just got onto this amazing site as i am going to finally get around to cleaning up my old J-1 Superjumbo.
The volume sliders are really bad, making using this box impossible, with the audio scratchily coming in/out, from super quiet to mega loud and nothing in between.
I saw a youtube video saying to just spray WD40 into the slider slot and work it a bit and everything should be good.
Can this be true? WD40? i thought i had better check with experts before doing damage!

thanks
N

NO! do not spray WD40 in there, you will ruin them forever.

You need some contact cleaner, deoxit, whatever it is called in your region.
This is the best method for cleaning the contacts, anything else is a major risk.

Thankyou for your reply!
i was suspicious of the WD40 claim, so good to hear my doubts were well founded.
contact cleaner it is!
also... should this be possible from the outside without opening the box?
cheers

i cannot get Deoxit over here (denmark), but have found something called Kontakt 60....
Kontakt Chemie Kontakt 60
is this essentially the same thing?
sorry for my ignorance but i am a noob when it comes to servicing old elctronics!

Yes looks good to use that, as long as it is graded as electrical contact cleaner.

For best results, it is best to take the back off and spray directly onto the potentiometers/switches themselves and work them immediately.
