Last night at the Staples Center was pure ELECTRICITY! If you have the opportunity to see this tour...GO!

Before my review of Van Halen, I have to mention the opening act.

COOL & THE GANG! Who and Why C&TG where chosen to open up a Hard Rock concert is beyond me. I think there could have been a better 80's Rock choice...BUT...Cool & The Gang brought it with both barrels :w00t:   From where we were sitting (last seat against back wall, total nose bleeds 350 yards from the stage  ) you really couldn't see them. There was a massive 150 foot by 75 foot jumbo screen behind them so that was cool. Since we couldn't see them, I couldn't tell you how old they are, but they sounded like they were 25! They played 40 minutes, of all the hits, finishing with "Celebration". There is nothing like live horns. They danced, they sang, they broke out guitars and Rocked....and the crowd LOVED'EM.

On to the head liners…

To be honest I wasn’t sure what to expect. I have very close friends in the industry that have witnessed rehearsals, sound checks and even the recording process over the last year all with mixed reviews and I was quite prepared to be let down or even walk out if it was CRAP (I walked out of an Iron Maiden concert that sucked before, so I’ll do it! :annoyed: )

But I have to say….they were completely AMAZING! They blew away any and all hopes and dreams of what a VH concert could be. From Alex Van Halen’s drum solo to Wolfgang Van Halen’s backing vocals, they were incredible. I really expected David Lee Roth to struggle the most and have even read recent reviews saying he was having vocal trouble….but not last night. Every scream, every howl, every note! He talked up the crowd, joked around, flirted with the girls in the front row and delivered the goods! The band was on stage for a solid 2 hours and it wasn’t fluff. It wasn’t a night a ballads. It was Hard Rock Heavy Metal from start to finish. Starting with Unchained and blasting through Runnin’ With the Devil, Everybody Wants Some, Ain’t Talking Bout Love, Mean Street, Pretty Woman and the list just goes on….

But of course…the man of the hour…

The winner and still Champion Mr Edward Van Halen….
(filmed last night in 720 HD with my cell phone, Eddie’s full solo, 9 minutes)

That solo was the greatest!!! I want to see these guys at least once more in my lifetime especially with DLR :-) like I said before they were one of my most favorite bands of all time. They have been around almost 40 years and still have the best SH-t out there.
Hey Chris did DLR fly across stage on wire when they played jump? That was always awesome to see :-)

The show was so good it's hard to express. I have nothing negative to say and normally I'm very critical of at least something.

No, DLR did not swing across the stage, but did the flying kicks, jumps, splits. Just amazing.

Man! I wish I could have seen them when they were in Nashville. Not to upstage Chris' video, but here is another EVH solo video from the Staples Center from 14th row:

That was great. I YouTube'd that same HD clip of EVH's solo last nite. I was blasting some Diver Down cassette tape on my Conion TC999. WHich , btw, had such an impact that 4 guys went out of their way to come see my radio. They stayed for an hour chatting. I'd quickly trade NickleBack's tix for EVH  I MUST see these guys before they fade away.

EVH is still the best in my book.Chris, I would like Your thoughts to Stevie Ray Vaughn's 'Testify' (Acoustic) in relation to Guitarist greats :hmmm:

SRV was / IS one of the best to ever pick up the instrument! There is really no way t compare SRV with EVH but the absolute top of their fields. I'm a huge fan for sure!

Eruption baby!!

Glad to see them performing again.

One of my favorite solos of all time from the man.

My personal favorite guitarist is Jimi Hendrix his 1970 concert at the LA forum one of his best ever especially when he played "The Star Spangled Banner".

There are so many greats Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmy Page, David Gilmore the list goes on.

I have posted this Vid. once but what the heck I'll do it again its prince at his best.

Very cool. VH was one of my favorites in high school.......I especially loved the Fair Warning album, especially Mean Street and Unchained. But unlike most people, I didn't have a huge problem with Hagar, in fact I liked a few of the songs on 5150, like Summer Nights. I didn't like Why Can't This Be Love though, it got way too much play on the airwaves, I became so sick of it. DLH was definitely the real mccoy, the irreplaceable..... but then he went solo and his style drifted more towards David Bowie, and I sort of stopped paying attention to him. In fact I'm not even sure that I've heard any of VH's new material since he rejoined. I've been slacking when it comes to the music scene.

The new VH album is closer to Fair Warning and Women and Children First than any of there other albums for sure. Pick it up, I promise you will dig it.

It took me a few listens through and now I can't turn it off!
