i will tell you guys my blues brothers story :-O  |-) |-)

redbenjoe

I Am Legend
ok bmoney -
-thanks for the invite
this story is for your exclusive viewing ;-)
------------------------------------------------
back about 1980 --most movie fans --actually read and heeded the words of the newspaper
and the national TV movie critics --is was like we had no minds of our own :dunce: :-O

when the BB movie first came out for their reviews --
they ALL panned it -.. BADLY :'-( :nonono:

- " worst movie of the decade "
" those 2 ' laugh in' clowns --should stay on TV !!!
" ray charles , james brown and aretha --were used/abused in brief appearances-
just to hype up the cast list --"
"waste of talent . "......... etc etc

anyway -- to me - just the thought of seeing steve "green onions " cropper
and all that enormous cast - all in ONE movie --
made me HAVE TO be there --and on opening night :w00t:

but -- the reviews were SO BAD --that i couldn't even beg anybody to go with me --
NOT my wife - none of my girlfiends --NOBODY -!! :bang: :bang:

so --for the first time in my life -- i go to the movies ALONE !!! :sadno:

i get there real early --to make sure i get a seat ?? :-D
by the opening bell ---the theater was 90% EMPTY ?????
on a saturday night :-O :-O :-O
------------------------------------------
so --the critics won -- they KILLED the flick --

not quite YET ..... ;-)
(read on)

i was watching///loving EVERY line - " FOUR fried chickens"
every moment --every scene was hilarious  :w00t:

and those ahole critcs could not have been more wrong about
the fabulous parts played by aretha , brown and ray charles
agree ??
fken A :-)
---------------------------------------------------
anyhow -- it was one of those movies that gave me the JONES ---- :-)
HAD to see it again !!!
so -- during the next few days - i offer my 'money back guarantee'
and free popcorn and a hottie :w00t: :w00t: --to any of my friends who would go with me-

but --after ONLY 3 DAYS --- its was GONE !!!
it was such a huge box office failure --the theater didnt even keep it for the full week :'-( :'-(

-----continued in a moment --gotta take a wiz ...........

redbenjoe

I Am Legend
so --i thought for sure it was dead forever - never to be seen by anyone again :sadno: :sadno:

there were no 'blockbuster' stores back then --
and the very few video rental stores carried only the big winners like
mary poppins , star wars --like that :-)

BUT ==3 weeks later............and,
by some "mission from gahdd " :angelic: :angelic: :angelic:
our local cheapo dollar movie theater --

that only plays old movies or new 'losers' :-D
gives it a shot !!!

BANG !!! after a few more weeks --there were LINES to get in - :-O
and they started playing it 4 times per day -
to always a FULL HOUSE -
they kept it there for almost a full year !!!

by then --the video stores started renting it

the rest is history --
imho - its the $$$ biggest after-market winner of all times-
and the cult following is endless and AGELESS

happy ending :-) :-)

On the rare occasion that I was allowed to watch Saturday Night Live, I always wanted to see two things - Mr. Bill and any skit with Belushi and Akroyd. Being able to stay up that late was quite a treat for a nine-year-old boy. Well, when the Blues Brothers movie came out, my hella cool dad took me to see it. I don't think I had ever laughed so hard in my young life. That was a great day.
