In Australia, any windscreen that has cracked to the edge is deemed unroadworthy - no point repairing it, you can always see the repair and it will fail any roadworthy.
Luckily for you guys, the authorities in the US are obviously not as strict - definately much cheaper than replacing the whole screen!!
Not many people do this kind of repair because they can add auto glass protection also in the insurance, I have really taken advantage of this over the years because I've broken it many times. It is our choice where to go and fix. There are professionals who does the replacement so perfect.

This is true. One of the things we constantly learn in our ongoing I-CAR training is that windshields are actually a structural part of the car, not just protection from wibd and debris. They have been for quite some time. In a big collision that tiny crack makes it useless.
But this is very handy for clearing up vision and avoiding tickets.
