For a basement party you would want something louder. I haven't found a 3-piece system with 4-inch woofers that I would describe as "loud". They might put out decent bass, but they don't put out enough mids to be considered "loud". Same thing with the Telefunken. Sure, it can fill a room with warm bass, but nobody would describe it as "M70 loud", certainly not loud enough to compete with the noise of 20-30 people having a good time.

OK Gotcha, well, not everything is suppose to be a Street Blaster. The design of these systems is of elegance. I can imagine some smooth jazz coming from it while a few people carry on a business conversation over a mid day belt of single malt scotch!

Also, if your two favorite radio stations are at opposite ends of the tuning dial, you can just whip the weighted knob and fling it to the other end without having to CRANK it all the way down the dial!

I have a mid 90's Kenwood home stereo that has a remote controlled tuning dial and it has a motor inside. Instead of a free spinning weighted knob it has resistance. It's the absolute worst. If you want to go from one end of the dial to the other your wrist is worn out from cranking it against the resistance (since the remote no longer works). Just the worst. AND it's geared poorly so it takes allot of turning.

My point, some manufacturers "GET IT" and some just miss the mark. True quality is in your hand, not just on paper.

Marantz recievers comes with solid Al knobs.
I have 2245 and 2385 and they are solid Al knobs, so also Akai Decks.

Lathe work first gives a crude look then they polish it well to give that mirror finish.

I don't know how they give that fine textured look on them. It must be some sort of fine bead blasting done on it and then polish the corners at 45 degrees.

Amazing precision and care taken in the manufacturing process. One may not find a hair line scratch on them. Super quality!

I love it more when they add a weighted flywheel to the solid Al tuning knob. :yes:

The flywheel inside the Sanyo MX920 is so good, it's possible to go across the entire tuner dial with only 1 flick of the knob. The knob itself is just cheap plastic, but you would never know unless you took it off and looked.
