Rewinding back to the late 80's, my Lasonic TRC-920 was just worn out and retired to sitting on top of the dresser powering a set of home stereo speakers. For the next several years I spent trying to find a suitable replacement. I went through a few late 80's early 90's blasters before abandoning the idea and moving on to bigger and better home systems and car stereo's.

One of the radio's that I had back in the day was the Sanyo M-W1 made in Singapore. Overall quality is poor. It has next to no power, small speakers, the decks are garbage, only has a tone knob, no line in and those are all the PLUS's

But, I have been looking for the radio's I used to own and I saw this on CL for the last few weeks. The seller wanted $20 and it's in very good condition, no real smashes or gouges to mention. All the controls are smooth and work as they should. So for the pure sake of nostalgia I bought it. Neither decks work and will need re-belting and the inside of the case is probably filled with black goo. BUT, it's one more off the "Memory" list!

And for that and that alone....It shall be added to the collection and saved from the landfill :-D

Thanks guys,

I'm listening to it right now and it's ok. Of course back in the day I was still trying to make a "Street Statement" and this radio just did't have the power to do that!

But just seeing it does bring back the memories!

NEXT: Fisher's first CD three piece'r with surround sound. Another total POS with the worst CD player EVER! That radio met it's demise when it caught me on a bad day :annoyed: . My girl friend had just dumped me (again) and I just wanted to CRANK some Metal to get me in a better state of mind, instead the damn CD kept skipping (like it always did) and I just picked up my acoustic guitar and BASHED that radio as hard as I could. That was the end of the guitar and the radio. :bang:

I have seen similar Fisher's but without the CD player. I might get one of those. :-D

This was mine. I spent all the rest of my money on cars, insurance, rent, and tuition, so I never had the snaps for a "real" ghetto. Believe it or not I actually made mix tapes on this.

Personal grails are always cool for the right reasons..

Chris, did the Fisher cd box have vertical cd door on the front of box with "fisher" or "surround sound" printed on the speaker grilles in a cursive script font?

Great story and nothing wrong with getting the childhood box. Even if it's a POS, the fact remains that our parents weren't, for the most part, buying us high dollar boxes. And if we had a job growing up, I'd bet tne majority of us burned through that cash far to quickly to get the high dollar score. :-D

Thanks to all the great hype in this thread, this POS sanyo model will soon become the most affordable model on eBay (until people forget about this thread).

Never underestimate the power of sentiment & nostalgia to overlook the POS state of being.
^ What he said. :agree:
Case in point:

Congratulations. Nothing wrong at all with buying based strictly on nostalgia (for the right price, of course). :-)

The Fisher I had, was a black 3 piece, had the CD player flat on the top, dual decks on the front with Surround Sound on the grills. That must have been around 1991-92. It was like a 1975 muscle car. Almost no power remained. The CD player was crap and you couldn't carry it while it played a CD or it would skip. Hell it skipped all the time any way. It did have a good spacial 3D surround feature though :-P

Good place for it...perfect for background sound or listening to the news!

Last night I gave it a wipe down with the microfiber cloth, tightened the screw on the antenna and threw some batteries in it (BTW, it takes 6 D cells)

At some point it will get a rebelt and then it can run out the clock on the shelf in the Boom Room! SAVED! :-D
