We might have to schedule a West Coast Mini-Meet where only the big boy boomboxes are allowed...that would settle it...I would love to hear which battery powered beast is loudest on BATTERIES...loudest with clarity... :-D

The round driver you see in the middle is the mid driver. So if I'm not mistaken it's not a round speaker driving a square panel.
That's correct. The round mid driver is on a separate suspension system than the larger rectangular woofer.

Who knew, even a speaker could be so complicated. That's really thinking out of the box.

It's not. It's just a whizzer cone that is damped by the foam surround.

I think the treble and mids of these speakers are the highlight, though, they're not harsh like the Sony or Panasonic.

Will try post a thread about it now...

If in fact the Pioneers are a Co-Axial mid-woofer/sub-woofer, that would be some ShizNIT!!

This question is to 'red' or anyone else with the knowledge,,,,Am I correct to believe the Pioneer speakers that are being discussed are the ones with the 'Flat Woofer' words on the front cheesecloth? My other question is do these speakers have a co-axial driver of sorts? Is the flat panel part of the front a seperate transducer than the central cone woofer, with its own voice-coil & a crossover, maybe? I'm picturing it as the flat panel transducer creates the bottom octaves of the bass spectrum(35-120Hz) & the woofer cone in the center of the panel creates the mid-bass/mid from about 120-4000Hz & the tweeters take over from there.

I'm hoping someone can share some knowledge or opinion on my theory. The cabs do say '3-Way' right? If so, then it's possible that the panel/cone woofer is a hybrid co-ax driver for sub/mid-bass...

What's the best or biggest model of the series? You guys got me wanting another box after going all out on my GF. GRRRR!!!! 'Damn you Scuba Steve'!!! :breakdance:
