My latest find is a nice Hitachi TRK8200E/Z, so here is the story.
I was over in Manchester visiting my parents, my Dad is seriously ill in hospital and so I had to make the trip. I am not going into any detail about my Dad as it is too upsetting for me to talk about. Anyway I made the hospital trip with my mam, and she was clearly upset on leaving so I decided to take her into town for dinner to try and cheer her up a little. After buying dinner for us both I only had a few quid left and we decided to catch the bus back to my mams as I was staying for a few days.
After the short journey back, we got off the bus and decided to browse a few shops just up the road from my parents house. It was a hot day and one of the shops was a domestic appliance shop, recon fridge washer cookers ect. The door of the shop was wide open and I could hear low volume music playing inside
I immediately turned to my mam and said I will be one minute. I quickly entered the shop and my mam followed me in. Standing at the counter of the shop was the shopkeeper, a tall Asian man and by now I could clearly hear the music playing. I smiled at the shopkeeper and glanced over to where the music was coming from, to my surprise it was a minty looking Hitachi 8200.
By this time I had a huge smile on my face and turned to my mam and said.....I knew it the music playing was Pakistani music which was on SW radio. I quickly asked the shopkeeper (whose name was Tariq) if the radio was for sale? he said I was the only customer he had had in that day and replied with a grin saying how much would I pay? I knew I had no money on me until I got home, it was then my mam offered to lend me the money until later. I took a closer look and could see that the box was in excellent condition. After a bit of haggling, £40 was agreed and after checking the box thoroughly I was out of there box in hand.
Tariq told me that it had never been outside or had batteries in it. He told me it was only used for SW radio on low volume all it's life so a massive thanks to my mam for putting a big smile back on my face after a not so nice hospital trip. So we both left the hospital feeling really low but the dinner and the radio made us both smile and it turned out to be an ok trip afterall. Here are some pics below, it really is mint like new condition, fully working and sounds really good too. This model may not be everyone's fave Hitachi but I love it in every way. Nice big twin vu needle's and an unusual dark chocolate and champagne colour, and great build quality make this a real sweet box

Sadly mine needs a new bass potentiometer as it has no adjustment whatsoever. It also needs new belts. I hope to fix it all up sometime in the future as it's beautiful cosmetically and has a decent sound. What's strange is the side-mounted FM mono/stereo selector!
