Super-pimp LED's!

So, I have this Technics component system with these cool blue "mood lights". imp: They look like neon, but they're actually LED. Let's take it apart and see how it works.




Here are the acrylic plates that carry the light:





And this LED is pointed directly at the edge of that plate.





Pretty creative, I'd say. It's basically taking the light and bending it 90 degrees. Notice how the plate is stepped, and each part of the step is sandblasted? The sandblasting is what makes it glow.

I like that! You can mimic that look by lightly sanding plexi glass too

I know guys that do the same thing for their car stereo displays in their trunk.. Like lexan windows for amps & subs and stuff..

Just got a Peroni Beer sign off Ebay.
And it uses the same principle. It's got LEDs at the bottom, pointing up through this thick block of acrylic.
Actually it's 2 blocks of acrylic molded together, with the word "Peroni" sandwiched in between. The light hits the word Peroni and makes it glow, just like a radio tuner dial.
Another big reason for the glow is that the top of the block is sandblasted, which reflects the light back down into the block.

But where is the BEER?

When you have LEDs at the bottom of a beer glass the foam and bubbles glows in dark. Make a ground glass bottom for better light effects.
Make one like that...

It will be a golden glow!

I like it too, but most bars don't serve it. And when you see it at the store it's overpriced......like $8-9 for a six pack.
