My drill's charger wouldn't work on a new battery I bought recently because it was toast as well. The dropping resistor fried to a blackened crisp long ago, just like everyone else's, so I bought another charger which are still available on the cheap, got the value off the new resistor and swapped in an equivalent which was 10W instead of 1/2W. The new resistors still get a tad toasty at the start of a charge.

Talk about poor engineering. Black and Decker recalled the charger and now you have to buy some fancy one that costs twice as much.

Cutting corners left and right! If they save $0.001 on each unit, over the course of a year, that pays for the CEO to take his whole family on an exotic vacation!

I've had bad experiences with black and decker power tools. Especially the drills.
Milwaukee power tools are the way to go. Love mine.

Black and decker really isnt rated to handle anything. Being from 'the trades' you mind as well toss that B&D stuff right in the trash and stick to makita, dewalt, milwaukee, hitachi tools. I just dont want to see you waste money on tools that break when you can use that money for boomboxes!

i love my milwaukee tools , i use my m12 drills and screw guns as well as the m12 multi tool. these are fantastic quality and as tough as they come ,and the milwaukee 120v sawzall is the best and smoothest cutting one on the market.

I have had the same 14.4v impact gun and drill set makita for almost 10 years. 1/2 that time on full time carpentry duty, the other half used working on about 50 vehicles. Only needed to replace the batteries once. A tool makes the man. Never skimp and cut yourself short, get the good stuff the first time.

I see it this way: if Black & Decker's orange and black stuff were any good these days, they'd never sell any DeWalt brand kit at all.

Bosch for me every time.

Yeah but why pop big dollars on handyman tools? Fair enough if you make your living using them, but most guys buy tools and use 'em 2 or 3 times per year. I have a 19 dollar 10' circular saw, used it 3 times in 3 years. Suits me.

all good points , for me nothing sucks like cheap tools that break at the worst moment . hardly ever have that problem with a good quality tool. if you do mechanic work you will hurt yourself every time those cheap wrenches break or they slip off the nut , i use tools daily and there are time a cheapy will save you but they usually break or wear out fast.

Haha! There's always money for that ;-) Yeah, this was just some cheapie drill I picked up 12 years ago, but it's a feisty little guy that works great. I was on the verge of tossing it after getting the new battery and then learning about the charger, having just tossed all the packaging for the battery. But, I figured I'd get it working again just to have as a backup.

I was actually checking out Milwaukee stuff the other day and was impressed, but there are so many choices, but now that everyone's here talking about power tools I'll see what others have in their arsenal.

Milwaukee Hitachi & Bosch has served me well. I also have a Makita, its my only one but its their answer to the Bosch Brute. Oh and I have a few Hilti stuff but they are overpriced imho. You basically gey what you pay for and you can't really expect a $39 drill to perform like a $399 set.

I have a Milwaukee 18 M volt lithium ion drill and impact driver set. I bought it at Farm and Fleet about 3 years ago on sale for $199.99 and I'll have to say it is the BEST! drill I've ever owned. Lots of power and the batteries hold s charge well and charge up very fast when dead.
