Greetings

My 1st post, having just come across this great resource.

Background:

I was the lucky 15 y.o. recipient of a new FH7 MkIII on a Hong Kong family holiday, back in 1985.

Man, that bad boy corralled the girls around the family pool in 1985 when cranked; what a great system. You know how this goes, as unfortunately an overseas posting had me flip it for storage challenges rather than $$ reasons, some years later. Now I realise (along with my Diamond Back Silver Streak) that I should had stood fast and kept it.

Today:

Anyway, I nabbed a tidy FH150r for $20 this week for the beach house to re-live my fond memories of the FH7; only to get it home and see the APM's have perished in the corner and have a tinny "twang" when the volume is turned up......really turned up like only an FH can do.

Are these:

i. repairable? Parts source?
ii. economic to repair?
iii. if yes to i. and ii. where can this be done?

iv. do I just hangout to find another set?

Complication:

The unit cam with a brilliant PS-Q3 LP turntable (old school, so no CD player) but the arm does not lower to the record and play......is this cactus?

Cheers

SK
(thanks for having me here)

About me here: a Bose Lifestyle 5 that has given yrs of (loud) service, a Beosystem 10 to listen to the AM news at home and a Nakamichi Soundspace 5 on the wall at the beach-house- Some Boom, Some Box......

Welcome aboard! All that you ask can be repaired. The only thing is the degree of difficulty. The speakers sound like they need a simple surround repair. However, new square surrounds are like a famous collector once said "...Rare as Rocking Horse Poo..." The turntable can be sorted out as well.

Congrats on your find!

Hi,

Considering that you've got it not just ridiculously cheap, but also together with very rare record player for just 20$, it would be smart to invest 19$ + shipping (even if it is 2x19$ + shipping), in new foams.

When it matters problems with PS-Q3, check this thread http://www.vinylengine.com/turntable_forum/viewtopic.php?t=29343

If it is in good state, it can be sold on ebay for at least 500 euros. PS-Q3 alone is worth 100.

Overall, it's very rare system, even rarer with PS-Q3 and worth investing in quality repair, even if you have to spend several times what you paid for it.

Here you can download service manual http://freeservicemanuals.info/servicemanuals/download/Sony/fh-150r.pdf
