This arrived on Friday, re-belted the deck, replaced the tuner display lamp, gave it a good clean and dismantled the speakers and washed all the dust out of the fronts. Has some wear and tear, but still looks nice, just needs a handle, anyone?

Congrats! They sound awesome!

I went slightly over 1/3 of the volume and blew the woofer surrounds. Those surrounds are only the down side of these speakers.

The surrounds on these woofers aren't foam some kind of treated fabric so should be fine, I hope. And yeah it does sound awesome :-)

     They look like treated cloth, but it is FOAM.    I'm pretty sure about it. :-D

I have the very same speakers on my FH-11W. They sprayed a layer of coating after shaping the foam. That coating on top of the foam will give the appearence of fabric. A closer look will reveal it.

Okay had a good look at the APM woofers I hate to disagree but the surrounds look like fabric to me, here are some close-up pictures.
The frontside is treated the rear is bare.

That is good news!

So, they made better speakers later on seeing the issues with the foam types.

:hmmm: :hmmm: I never knew that.

My niece Serah also says it is no good..

See how mine looked...

I have to use Freddie's Method to make the surrounds. Now the speaker is out for the job. I am cleaning up the sticky mess it left on the sides and the edges of cone.

First I need to make a perfect mold to make the surrounds. :hmmm: :hmmm:

Any misalignment would make the voice coil rub against the magnet and kill it. . The plane of cone edges are almost 5 mm behind the plane of speaker chassis rims. Very tricky when I glue it all together. I still got steady hands even after years of bourbon, vodka and beer abuse :drunk: . :w00t: :w00t:

This is no easy job as it looks :sadno: :sadno:

I still cannot believe they made foam surrounds....

The inventor might have had foam underwears :w00t:   ............ dumb so dumb!

That was stupidity! :sadno: :sadno:

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. :-D I have an FH-5 with the three ways. (For some reason the FH-5 got them before the FH-7. Go figure.) Mine do not have foam.

Thanks Freddie!  If you bend the cone a little the voice coil will rub on the magnet. Fixing is not easy as it looks.
