Hello, to all of you,
i got a sony cfs-d7 in excellent physical condition and everything went well, until i started to want to record!
The boombox works perfectly (radio, aux, tape playback)
I have been using it for a while now and it is not working well...........................................................
I have to admit that this device is quite difficult to find and that I got it for a good price (200 euros) with its original box and all the original documentation.
And I would love to have it in my collection (in working order)
I have restored various boomboxes in the past, but I can`t see where the problem comes from.
Can you help me to bring this device back to the top of its possibilities?
thank you all
greetings from Spain

Start with the Rubber Belts. They have probably deteriorated from use and age even though they were working before.

Hello,
thank you for your answer
yes, I think so too! but in doubt, I wanted to have a broader view.
it is the first time that a mechanism remains blocked up, and seen the inside of the beast!
when i get the belts, i'll take them apart
I will come back to tell you the progress of the repair.
It is a good quality machine, but with very little information about how to repair it.
greetings

Yes. Interestingly, many old cassette players work perfectly normally. Play, reverse, forward, all However, when you press the record button, it breaks. It doesn't work anymore. Then things get complicated. .because it needs more power, more things move then ... The straps break ..

Good morning,
well after receiving the belts and the idler!
I took apart the sony (very precise mechanism) as well as my akai GXC-750D.
but fortunately i had the manual service (original paper) because the scans on the web are not accurate enough.
I changed all the belts, greased the mechanics, lubricated the sliders and all the switches
then, adjustments: speed, play, dolby, S&f, demagnetization, rec etc...
to finish, degrease the box and disinfect (covid)
and well, I launch the first cassette, and really a lot of happiness!
Certainly it is not! the big song very heavy in bass (jvc rcm: 70/90)
but an exelent quality in cassette playback: type-2, with or without dolby.
I tried the recording of course and again, great!
ok it`s not my tc-k 777es, but very good balance on tape 2.
I would like to thank you for your help, because I am happy that this sony will be part of my collection!
I'll try to post some pictures of it and maybe a video
greeting

Good that it’s working again.
Agrred, not a powerhouse but an interesting box with some nice design quirks. Oh and definitely well built.
