Something worth a dollar two ninety eight on EBay…

My first quick pass through eBay in ten years and I see at least a dozen perfectly reasonable deals.

$40 + shipping. I would buy it but I’ve already owned one.
Three piece. These models sound great. Great bass, clear sound, line in/out, aux and phono are all compatible with component stereo, portable players, and phones. 5 Band EQ. No level meters. No bluetooth needed. Sounds better than boxes being peddled for $500+.

Not my cup of tea, but it's not too shabby. I was expecting shipping cost to be $300 USD.

Somebody was asking $900 for an M90?
It must've needed a little "TLC".
I don't think I've see one for under $1500 the last couple of years.
It was a little rough. The back was off and missing screws. The cassette deck was inoperable. The antenna wires going to the tuner board were pulled off the tuner board. They claimed the Radio and Line in worked and the speakers were fine. It was all there except missing battery cover and the fine tuning knob. It was a little rough.

A “little” rough? If the antenna wires were pulled off the board and the seller said the radio worked then every other thing he said was suspect as far as Im concerned. If the back cover screws are gone then I would immediately assume those screw posts are suspect. Cassette motor constantly running is a familiar one, the heads are stuck down and that could lead to, or be from, that broken door. The door won’t close if it’s not in alignment. That fine tuning knob is hard to source from a component cassette deck (Teac) but it can be done. That knob was the only non stock part on my $900 M90 that Ira hooked me up with. It was always a race with that guy to get those deals out to members or get them posted here. I used to take great pride in answering his emails by thanking him but needling him by letting him know i already bought it. I wonder if Freddy still has the PC5 I repaired and sold him. I saw a couple on EPay and thought of him.

Ikr? It’s not my cup of tea either, but I never regretted taking Norm‘s advice and buying mine for $30, because yes, it’s all about the sound with me and these sound fantastic, the bass is better than far more expensive boxes with far more hype.

Price drop this morning to $37.50 lol

Happy Monday everyone, putting the espresso on now. :breakdance:

i agree. If I see I see one for $900 it’s mine. I would shoot my own mother to get one at that price. Actually, that’s the same scenario as my first one, except it was my ex wife that took a bullet for the team.

That’s another thing that yanks my chain. Shipping costs.

My PC-5 interaction that came off as a bad hostage negotiation was over a box that was 30 miles away from me, if that. He wanted $66 shipping. I offered on a Modulaire 2250 yesterday that is twice as far away with shipping of $19.
i think these sellers are still standing on the scale when they weigh these boomboxes. Either that or the price of styrofoam is being listed on the Commodities Exchange again.

i shipped a box to Moscow. I shipped a box to Brazil. I shipped a box to Japan. I shipped all over the US and the UK. I had one shipped to me from Hong Kong AND one from Brazil. Who do these idiots think they are dealing with? It’s eBay, the world is getting smaller by the minute, and more people are playing dumber at the same rate. This whole idea of getting a lot of something for a lot of nothing you found in the trash is just getting embarrassing to even watch.

I agree Ken,

I picked up a local box for sale for one of our members who lives in Italy. The seller wanted an obscene amount of $$ for shipping overseas, so I offered to pick it up locally and packed it myself and shipped it for a fraction of the of what he wanted to send it for

Shipping costs have become the new 'tipping' feature common at North American vendors. I am in the process of working on a small electronic project (which I'll post in February) and the shipping cots outweighed the replacement part 5 fold! These were stickers! Something that could be put in an envelope for crying out loud

Rant over......

Welcome back my friends, to the rant that never ends, were so glad you could attend, come inside, come inside…

More ranting. To paraphrase Dizzy Dean, it ain’t ranting if you can do it.

Thats how we used to ride herd on this hobby back in the day, we came here and ranted. Or praised.
If your name became mud here, people avoided dealing with you on eBay. We talked about what a fair price for something was, and what it was not. We talked about who the good guys were, and who they were not. But mostly, we talked. Bullshit grows in silence.

This site used to be where the experts hung out.

I think it still is, but that’s just me.
