Lasonic made four different radio's that featured 8" woofers. Multiple versions of the 931 all the way into the modern era with the i931. The feature packed 935 and the king of the woofer travel 975. All three of those get their props on a regular basis. You can find a 2nd generation 931 on eBay any day of the week. The 1st gen's are a bit harder to find and WAY hard to find in complete working condition. The 975's are a regular feature on eBay as well, but the radio I am talking about is the bastard child hardly anyone ever talks about.
The Lasonic TRC-951
Minimal chrome, blacked out speakers with black dust covers and few red accents.

I got this radio courtesy of blu_fuz. He is the only member I know with one and at one point, he had two! Knowing I'm a Laconic Nut (if you hadn't noticed), he kindly contacted me first and we made the deal. This was years ago.
All this time, the 951 has been proudly displayed in my collection, in a stack, under the 935 and above the 975. Sandwiched in a Lasonic love triangle.
When the 951 came to me back in 2012 it wasn't in bad shape, but not really in a "Usable State". The tuner does not work. Decks are farked, the EQ was missing 4 sliders. BUT THE LINE IN WORKS!
So she sat....
hmmmmm

Hitting the street....need flash and flare
TRC-935 ! ! !
Going to beat swap in Los Angeles with SLO, Fresh Produce and Mac Daddy Freshness
TRC-975 ! ! !
With the EQ sliders busted out, no FM and no decks....
She has been over looked more times than I can count.
Today, that comes to an end! :annoyed:
First off, we have to deal with those EQ sliders!
Can't be walking around missing those!

All the EQ pieces were in the battery compartment, right were blu_fuz had put them when he sent me the radio back in 2012

mellymelsr suggested Devcon Plastic Weld to make repairs and the stuff works great, best I have found so far.

I had to make a few extension pieces and glue them together

I also used the plastic weld on some screw posts, worked great

While the plastic weld dried (1 hour) I broke out the Wizards wax and went about giving the old 951 a polishing.
After working on the 931 and polishing that to a perfect shine, I was looking at both the 975 and 951. I thought they were both a flat matt finish. As it turns out, the 951 is oxidized. A little elbow grease and all the surfaces polished up to a nice shine. This radio has never had the full tear down. So at some point, I'm going to pull it down to nothing and when I do, I'm going to machine polish all the scratches out of the top, like the 931.

At some point, I'd like to get this into the repair shop to have the radio receiver fixed. Bluetooth parts have been ordered so this radio can finally hit the street. Now that the EQ is fixed.

I think this rare blaster needs to see some sunshine!
