Wow!!!

It amazes me the money people will pay for boxes that are sight unseen and bought 'As Is' due to age. The thing is, any novice with a screwdriver can attempt to repair these units and stuff them in the process and then sell them online 'as is'. To pay thousands of dollars for 30+ year old untested boomboxes is very risky. I wonder how many people pay top dollar for classic units with known/unknown faults only to shelve them due to lack of parts or repair experience.

Some of these novices can't even re-install self tapping screws without stripping them in the process!
IMHO, $0-$200 range is OK on Ebay but I will only pay more to buy a restored/tested unit from a Boomboxery member!
James....
Yes, sometimes you strike out. But there are bargans to be had, with a little work. Practically every box you buy these days has to be yanked apart and have the switches cleaned before you can even test it. Lots & Lots (I would say most) of boxes are sold 'as is' even on this site. Personally, I don't mind buying a box that's not perfect. With a little work I turned $100.00 into a very nice GF-767. I almost got a VZ for the same price that with a bunch of body work would have been nice. I'm STILL parting that out. I've lost track of which ones have a deck that currently works. You know how it goes. Maybe you don't plan on keeping it and plan to eventually sell it, etc.
What do you mean "Any novice with a screwdriver CAN attempt to repair..."
I don't think I have ever bought a box that HADN"T been opened previously.
...and I sure as hell am not going to go against the opinions of 20-30 of the people whose opinion trust the most when it comes to boomboxes. So I end up with some, but not all, of the same ones everybody has had.
Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Are you my daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaddy?!
...and if you bought an Eden-Pure for $475.00 you got ripped off.
It's like Boomboxes. You pays your money, you takes your chances.
