prolly the same reason women don't have a mute button , just to torture mofo's to death

neither do i that's why i'm still single :-D

Power buttons or lack there of are no big deal IMHO. My most used box: Hitachi TRK-9300W doesn't have one. I mainly play tapes on this one so from off, I just hit play and away we go! My latest Aiwa has an on/off switch. I tend to forget to switch the power off after stopping a tape! :-O so I don't miss an On/Off button at all!!

It's a beast. Solid, compact, quality and the tape deck sounds great! Made in 1982 so it's earlier production than you'd think!
Looks stealthy with the almost all black exterior front panel. Not much love here for 3 piecers but this thing thumps and thus gets a thumbs up from me.

James..... :-)

I agree with Ira. Boxes with separate power switches have more reliable "other" switches in general. When the function switches serves double duty as power switch, they are not nearly as reliable and frequently burnt out. I have repaired many and even "mini" boomboxes suffer from deteriorating function switch contacts. The significance is that power switches are more reliable by design, and are easier to find replacements for. Those dreaded multi-pole function switches are nearly impossible to find replacements.
