Hey,
This is my second post, to see my boombox history so far, click here: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=15376

I was wondering what boomboxes have shoulder straps and controls on top? Seen plenty of midsized models with levers and buttons on top, but they all have handles.
I like the idea of not having to carry it, just casually looking down and turning it up when something fresh happens to play :sin: . Is it possible to remove the handles and put on a strap instead or is that usually a massive pain?
The only models I know of are, of course, the JVC M70 and also the Crown Csc 850 and 980, lost bidding on a 850 a few days ago that I really wanted. Hence this post.
Are there any other popular/good models I should check out? Would love to get one over the summer and just carry it everywhere, the crowns looked like they could take a beating, not like those large Techsonics & aka's that falls apart even before they arrive to your door  .

Thanks,
Elias

Yeah, my first thought was the Crown 850. There are plenty of mid-sized boomboxes with controls on top, but other than the ones you mentioned, I can't think of any that are shoulder-strap capable. :-/

Oh nice one! I'll never get one of those being a student though  .
I was thinking about making one myself, get a £ 50 box, remove the handle and see if you could maybe stick like a metal bar in there that you could attach a strap to via the holes where the handle used to be? Or just attach it to the handle if that doesn't work.
What do you think?

Peace

Sometimes you can get a RC-838 for a fair price - I got mine in great condition for 99€ BIN.
But I think making your own strap box is a good idea  Another possibility would be to make a carrying bag much like the ones JVC offered for some of their boxes.

Oh wow, ever since I saw it in the "the boombox project" video I thought it was out of reach. Guess sometimes you get lucky :-). Makes me want to go to flea market and stores for some good finds, but in Sweden - nothing, and not really here either. I'll go to London soon and we'll see :-).
I bought a cap 10 brand boombox fairly cheap, I think I'll attach a strap to the handle. Also I'm gonna paint it bright green :-D. It looks a bit plain and it's not that valuable, a good test object. But it's from 81 so I think it'll sound good, a nice partner for the summer.

and no thanks to bags, hiding the chrome and all the good stuff!

So finally a picture of the strap-project.
No paint Cause the Captain look crazy fresh in the flesh  .
Also works on other boxes :-).
