Hello fellow boombox enthusiasts!
Well I FINALLY got a Sharp VZ-2500! I was hoping for a 2000, but this one was TOO NICE to pass up! The gentleman I bought it from is from Germany. He bought it from a seller near his home via E-bay. It is in near mint cosmetic condition!
He could not say IF the original owner, had replaced, ANY of the belts . However he said the turntable worked well along with the tape deck and radio.
So I gave him detailed instructions about how to back it safely. He did double box it and used plenty of bubble wrapping.
Of course I had it insured it for the full purchase price. So I awaited him to tell me when he shipped it. About 2 and a half weeks later, I got a notice from the post office that it arrived. I went to the post office to pick it up, to inspect the package for any damage. There was not any.
It took me about 15 minutes t get it unpacked. It WAS packed extremely well.
Except for a few light scratches on the top left had side and on mark on the left side of the boom-box, it looks nearly new.
So the moment of truth came, I opened the turntable door and put in the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack. The arm moved over and the LP began to play.
I am TRILLED to report the Record played PERFECTLY on both sides!
I tested the tape and it sounds good and the FF and REW are strong and fast. The only thing I noticed, it appears to play a tad slower then my JVC-RC-M70.
But it does not appear to be because of a stretched belt.It may be just that the tape deck in the M-70 is a much better made deck.
So I would bet that the belts MUST have been replaced at some point in the past 5 years. I can't imagine it would work this well with the ORIGINAL belts, still intact.
So I am VERY HAPPY!
The sound is better then I expected, after reading how it sounds flat and has very little base. It depends on what record you are playing I have noticed. some have more base, others sound thinner.
I think if it had been made with a loudness switch, (like the VZ-2000)the base would be a better.
But I am very pleased! I do not think I will EVER sell it!
I AM still on the lookout for a nice VZ-2000.
I WILL post some pictures soon!
