This unit refuses to give up its fault on the radio , tape is fine after new belts etc , switch to radio and the volume disappears there is a faint hiss but no stations connecting with uniform tone across the fm, am options
Aerial connections cleaned pots lubed , crackle on tape/radio switch overcome

Did you try to rotate the band selector a few times ? See if it comes alive . Band switch contacts can be corroded

Like Eddy said, you can try working the switches to see if it gets better.
Either way, it's a good idea to clean all of them.

Yes all the switches have had switch cleaner and plenty of movement

Your tuner board itself might have a failure if switch and control and especially the record-bar have already been cleaned.
