Kijiji has a very small audience. Over here, you can count the number of listings on a couple hands (and maybe feet) digits. Boombox listing results = 0. In other words, hardly anybody here in USA will waste the keystrokes to visit kijiji unless you are looking for pets. Selling something in a venue with little audience means low response and it's not suprising it sat there for months. Truth be told, I see something on eBay, I often bid what it takes to get it, but when I see the same exact thing on CL, somehow, I'm not motivated to spend nearly as much.
I saw one sell on eBay sometime back and I recall it sold for a decent price, although admittedly, I don't recall exact price. If the guy wants worldwide collecting type of value, he needs to eBay it. Doubtful if kijiji or CL will net the max on a niche item such as that.
In any event, why even dwell on it? If you think something is not worth it to you, don't buy it and move on. I've paid far more for certain things than anyone else would pay simply because it was something I wanted, badly. On the other hand, I've also seen things that end up in a bidding frenzy and at no time was I even motivated to even bid the minimum.
