Sharp GF-777 in Black color

Nothing wrong with custom work but I dislike misleading representations leading a buyer to believe that an item may be an actual “edition” as if it was released like that. Nice silkscreen skills though, that’s a sought after skill in boombox restoration or customization. I salivate at what I could do if I had that skill. On the other hand, I dislike the blackout look because I feel it somehow makes this classic look smaller and cheaper.

Looks a nice job. I can’t tell from the pictures if that’s screen printing or possible clear vinyl labels. There is a lot of detail there, but credit if that is the case. I have been looking at screen printing (I have some posts on another method of decals on here) but haven’t tried any screen printing yet.
I must admit personally I wouldn’t have changed a classic silver case to black but that’s just my personal preference.

I do like the idea of customising.l and hope one day to do a fully gold plated box (not spray paint).
Been doing a lot of research on the process. Just think a completely one-off gold plated M90 or 777 or similar would look awesome and I have never seen one, only ever gold paint.
Do you think I’m mad?
Anyway will have to wait until I retire as will be a big project and don’t have the time yet.

That's pretty darn nifty. I am more in line with Superduper in the fact that I would be interested to know if he does his own silkscreening or, if not, where he goes to have it done.

Isn't the Gold model missing the volume dials towards the center corners of the speaker grill area?...or is it because that is a different model which didn't have that feature?

Also, it appears the colored models are missing the EQ graphic of the stock silver model.

I've seen one that was clear-coated and then gold flake was blown or tossed onto it before it dried

I'm not digging any of the painted ones.
Hopefully they were in really bad cosmetic condition before he painted them.
I have a feeling they look a lot worse in person than in the ad pics, not to mention the fact that they're listed as "parts only" so who knows if anything works on either one.
Three seller feedbacks and one is negative, not a very good percentage.

I wouldn't buy any of them, certainly not for whatever money is being asked (I didn't bother to check). But of course as a short timer, I'm no longer in a buying mode. But it's not at all unusual for sellers of electronics these days to list them as "parts only" due to the number of unscrupulous buyers who abuse the return process by either returning a box of rocks, or parts swap, or just plain arm twisting for partial refunds because something in a 50 year old device doesn't work like they brand new (maybe scratchy controls?). It's a shame it has come to this but if I were to list something, I'd also likely just list as for parts simply because I wouldn't want to have to deal with returns.

That's my guess , bad cosmetic condition , cracked cases...........can't see what's under that paint
I would not buy one of these

$2500 + shipping ($150 to me), lol.

I agree, it's a shame some people/buyers suck.
I've sold a decent number of boxes on there, even listing the last few as parts only thinking I'd be covered (which, in theory, makes sense).
Unfortunately it's Ebay's world and from everything I've read, they almost always find in favor of the buyer in a dispute no matter how it's listed (they want the buyers to be happy and keep buying).
"Item not as described" has a broad meaning and it's how most buyers file disputes.
Thankfully I've had all honest buyers but every time I've listed a box, I kept my fingers crossed.

You only need to experience one of these scumbag interactions to change your world and risk perspective. Don’t forget, eBay snags a kings ransom too now for the privilege of getting scammed by unscrupulous buyers. I hardly ever sell on eBay anymore. Giving 15% to eBay, more if PayPal too, then shipping charges also gets charged the same commission even though shipping should really be a reimbursement as opposed to earnings, and then the remainder will be charged by IRS as earnings…. No, it’s not worth it to sell on eBay anymore. Put on marketplace for cheaper, do a hand to hand cash sale and sleep well instead.

I normally don't deal face to face, but if I were to ever sell some of my high end radios, it would be in a well lit area in town with plenty of cameras. Cash only. I would take a power inverter and batteries to show full operation. Even then, possibly a buddy and a sidearm just in case things go really south..lol.

I'm afraid to ever sell on eBay for the exact reason you guys mentioned. Either damaged during shipping or someone pulling a fast one where I lose money and a nice working radio.

No thanks.

I sold mainly lower to mid tier boxes (blockbuster, SCR-8s, etc.).
The last one I sold in the summer as "parts only" was a TPR-955 that I didn't feel like refurbishing.
I'd never sell an M90 or similar on there.
I'd rather do face to face but I haven't had good luck with marketplace.
I recently had a torpedo heater for sale (first time using marketplace) and two different guys left me waiting in parking lots because they never showed.
One guy asked me to deliver it to him because his car was "ripped apart", I told him try someone else.
I had a couple people contacting me from South America and even other states, there are some really crazy people out there.
I guess people get off on inconveniencing other people.
