Hi everyone I am new to the forum and also to collecting.
My first purchase was a Sharp GF 555 in top condition and everything works perfectly,
I have just bought my second purchase of a Sharp GF 767 in cosmetically good shape except for one end antenna Knob was broken off and 3 of the switches all the same ie the dubbing and both tape select switch knobs are missing.
But the main and vital problem is that after being stored in a shed for 15 years it no longer starts up. no power.
The seller assures me that it worked when he stored it away, and he was very genuine.
Can anyone pleas advise me on the best cost effective steps I should take before taking it to a technician?

Great Forum.
Thanks.

Welcome aboard, Ashly.

I would suggest a couple of things:

1) Try the boombox with batteries if the unit doesn't power on with the AC cable.

2) Try to play a tape without turning the unit on using the power switch. The tape functions bypass the power switch on the GF-767.

Then, report back.

There's also a fuse inside of it on the power supply board as well to check. Just gave my spare one to Lopez and I saw it on there. Should you not want it after everything I'm sure somebody would like it here. I call DIB's on her if you don't want it. I've grown to really like mine.

Thank you to both Fatdog and JBoogie2384 for the advice,
I am in London at the moment where I picked up the 767 and I will be heading home with it tonight so will try your recommendations.

hey Guys. I have a feeling you have a good experience with this model and the GF range, I am itching to Know how it compares to a 777. just on the point of Audio quality alone.
Is it true that the less bells and whistles you have the more direct the sound output will be? or is that just a myth. The 777 has rave reviews.

Anyway back to repair and parts, first thing first..I hope to get this baby running first to see what it can do. Fingers crossed.

Ashly.

you should also try what fatdog originally suggested with pressing the play button on either deck to bypass power switch :-D

Tried that too sadly no luck there either,
when I can steal a moment from the list of chores for my wife in the next few days I will try to check for fuse issues etc.
