OK - so I'm just about to pull the trigger on this Sharp gf9696 and the seller says it "may have" some buttons missing from the top of the unit.

NOW this may or may not be an issue - as I have a beater 9494 with all buttons and swtiches on the top present - my question is:

Do these two boxes share common components? If I compare my 9191 with the 9494 there is a definate FAMILY feel - so can anyone confirm?

If it's the same 9696 you posted earlier I noticed the 2 front slider caps were missing and also looks like the cassette window assembly is missing

I believe the front sliders are the same as the top ones so your 9494 should yield some useful parts. :-)

'Fraid so Claret.

Like I say, the 9494 sliders should do the trick.

Just compared my 9696 & 9494, the doors LOOK the same at first glance (except for the 'Metal' legend) so fingers crossed

Hard to say - these can go for 200 plus in good condition.

If it's in good cosmetic shape and technically sound and only needs those parts that you (luckily) have, then you'll end up with a nice machine.

Only thing is, are there any other parts missing or undisclosed issues?

The tape deck is a likely candidate for problems on these. :-/

I have seen good 9696's sell for $500+ USD. Decent ones almost always sells for over $200+ USD. Rarely do you ever see any cheaper than $160 or so.

Just told the seller that I cannot live with all the defects they failed to mention in their advert

I need to start collecting mint working boxes - rather than this large collection of boxes requiring TLC

I'm lazy and would rather count on others to send me their GF-9494 parts after they've upgraded to GF-9696's

:agree: I reached a point where I have more than enough projects so I try to look for the nice ones only now.

$5 Thrift finds are still the exception.

norm what else are you missing??

Ramon: I'm still missing the same stuff as last time -- battery door and cracked glass. Patience will be a virtue. Someday, I'll complete this guy.
