What will happen down the road when businessmen become hi tech members of this site? They show off their repairs and all... plus girls they sleep with ....and and try to impress folks here only to make use of this site .... as a pure business place.

...something to think about!!

If what I believe your getting at is people simply signing up to hock wares...under the ruse of participation, then yes it‘s a risk. If not reality now. If there is a concern let us (mods) know and we can investigate. It takes alot to spend time within the restrictions of everyday life watching the site. And we depend on members letting us know if something feels amiss. :-)

So having some "pure business people" on the site would be bad? I would venture to say that some of our members already here qualify as "pure business people".
More people + More people = bigger market OUTSIDE eBay, which is a good thing held here under the watchful eye of our fellow members. A smaller, tightly controlled fee-based market is bad. EBay makes $ while we get to guess what beat up pos boombox is going to arrive packed in newspaper.

I don't know, however, about the bit on women they sleep with.

All though you are, I say, you are on the right track, son... ;-)

Yeah, there are a lot of members that flip boxes to make some cash on the side. I've done it with boomboxes. BMX stuff, car parts, truck parts, you name it. I don't try to flip much here, but if there is a chance to buy something and maybe make a few bucks when I'm done playing with it, I would for sure.

Unfortunately i'm not a seller, i have a hard time parting with anything and it seems like selling boxes on e-Pay is risky business  .

This brings up another point, and something i just don't understand...if buyers receive boombox's "not as described", or "damaged"...multiple times...WHY, WHY WHY would you continue to purchase them and/or risk them getting damaged in shipping and aggravate yourself? Sooner or later you will find that same box...it might take months, or years but eventually you will find it. I still wish every collector would go that extra "mile"...to save a boombox and pick it up in person, interact with the seller and be pleased with your purchase without the stress and drama involved in buying something without seeing it  . I have met SOOOOOOOOO many sellers in the flesh throughout the years...driven thousands & thousands of miles...the rush and experience for me NOW...is still the same as it was in the beginning...it's that exciting

I see the other side of this.

I like cheap buys off ebay. Ebay and paypal have you covered as a buyer incase they are not what they should have been.

Meeting up with someone for a box is still #1, always. Just time, distance, and there is no protection are all factors in that.

I'm cool with either way!

I Am Legend
i would prefer that all my purchases and sales be in person = more fun // no risks for buyer or seller ..

lots of my most expensive ' grails ' have been from big classy estate sales nearby in luxurious palm beach ( rich people ).
so - i can see // try before the payment -
its not exactly tons of fun or friendly ( like gordies trips )
bc estate brokers are all business pros that know the exact top dollar ( reference is ebay )
of every vintage item ( brass door knobs , billiard sticks etc etc , marantz or macintosh stuff )-

so there are never ' scores ' -
but its much better to drive home with a box that we already is safe and works

So true Ira.

When i buy & pick up all my boxes locally i pretty much pay market value, or "e-bay" prices, but it's always been like that for me with the rare exception. The last 2 boxes i picked up this weekend i didn't get cheap either, everybody checks e-bay/internet/boombox forums when they find something, and they have a good idea of what they are worth so you have to be prepared to pay $$$ :-D

Seems like every seller neglects to mention some flaws on their box. Or thinks their weak, grainy, 640x480 photos are good enough to stand alone without saying anything further. (Notice all the sellers who say vague things like, "Item has some wear marks, see photos for condition"). Hello people, if your phone was manufactured anytime in the last 7-8 years, it can take bigger photos than 640x480, so that indicates to me that you're afraid to show more detail.

My thinking is, most people don't sell a box unless A) they're having money problems, or B) there's something about the box they don't like, but they're not willing to reveal it. And which one happens more often, A or B? B imho. If you really liked a box, you wouldn't be selling it.

You forgot to mention C & D & E... C) No more room or space, D) Selling off 1 of the duplicates, E) MARITAL PROBLEMS
