I got this at a rummage sale. It's a Sanyo MCD500K, radio, cassette player, cd player, and dubbing. Everything works except the cassettes sound like you can hear rumbling and barely the actual music. It's been sitting for over 30 years they said and there's dust in the cassette drives. Could dust/build up be causing this? I cannot find anything online about this model but a couple videos showing it off. I am also trying to figure out if it's worth getting fully serviced. I don't want to put a lot into it if it's not worth it at the end of the day. I have no idea of what the value is or could be. TIA!1000047253.jpg1000047254.jpg

Cassette drive belts may need replacement.
Being late 80's model, access to internals and repairing will be easier.

I would take it for its vertical CD drive alone.

Yea I really like the cd drive. Do you know what it cost typically to do a service on a boombox?

I'd say it's worth getting fixed up as that machine would be a great boombox to have in an office or living room. Being able to play CD opens many possibilities.

Thank you! Yea I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth trying to fix up versus the expense of servicing it.
DIY is the norm.
There are many U-Tube videos showing belt replacement and other simple maintenance.

You need a set of screw drivers to open it and Deoxit contact cleaner spray/liquid to clean the switches/slider controls.
Take ample photos before dismantling anything, as reference for assembling it back. Keep the screws organized.
Buy assorted set of belts from ebay or aliexpress for replacement.

Open the box and post photos here for any doubt, free expert advice must follow.

It seems the function switch is corroded. Rock the function switch multiple times to see if sound betters at some position.
If cassette mechanism is working, then it needs only cleaning of the switches and controls with a contact cleaner spray.
