Sanyo M9935K Tuner Installation Assistance

Hello -

My childhood Sanyo M9935K boombox was in pretty rough shape cosmetically but fully functional. I purchased a non-working one off of EBay that was in great cosmetic condition and (almost) successfully transferred the inner parts to the donor chases as well as changed out all the belts.

I left the tuner pulley, dial string and indicator in place in the donor unit and am trying to install the board but am having some difficulty. I believe that there has to be some trick to this that isn't overly complicated but can not find a thread or YouTube video that addresses this issue. My assumption is to turn the pulley to either of the extreme ends of the dial, do the same with the tuner mechanism, and install the board. However, there are two pegs on the pulley that need to line up with two holes on the white plastic fins of the tuner and that seems to be a problem.

I have yet to connect the front portion containing the speakers but guess that that would help possibly allowing me to know where the indicator is in relation to a station.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Jon

Have you tried getting the tuner board lined up with the tuner wheel then try turning the tuning knob slowly until the holes line up and maybe then the parts will slip into place .

Thanks, yeh I have but now that I know there is no simpler method I'll keep trying. A 1/4 inch in any direction and the board lays flush . I'll have to hook up the speakers and then I'll know for sure if I am in the notches our not.

Everything else was so straightforward. I guess there always has to be that one thing!

Yep, looks like a patience thing, as in, it'll test your patience until you want to throw it out the window :)
Definitely verify if you have both of them in the correct orientation.
You don't want to finally get it together then realize one needs to be turned 180 :bang:

Ha correct - a WHOLE lot of patience and some luck. Even a blind squirrel so they say -- almost literally!

Thanks for the responses. Here she is....as good as a 40+ year unit gets.

PS. Thanks for the orientation tip. I did have it all set to the extreme left to avoid the issue.
