Not the same. :no: However, the Chinese company sure makes it seem so with the similar logos.

That logo is so similar to the early Rising logo that I'm thinking the Chinese company may have purchased the trademark rights from the original firm and picked up where they left off.

I seem to think the same thing happened to grundig when eton licensed the name. Some interesting looking radios the new rising is making. Sadly I suspect they aren't what we would like in terms of performance or quality.

Here's the reply I received this morning:

Thanks for your email. Yes we do hold a relationship with Rising Electronics Japan back in our history. We were the sole distributors of Rising Electronics Japan in the late 80s but unfortunately Rising Electronics Japan later announced that the company is winding up all it's business. We obviously were very disappointed by such decision hence we did a lots of effort on advertising RISING brand and we never wanted to let it go. Therefore we hold a discussion with Rising Electronics Japan in order to take the registration right of "RISING" brand & allowing us to use it. Rising Japan first disagreed with our request but after all the negotiation they to agreed to give us registration rights but they reserved all the right for the Japanese market as "RISING" brand play a fine part in the Japanese history.

Thanks for the investigative work, krafty. :yes: I guess that explains why the logos are similar but not the same.
