After weeks of placing ads in local papers and local internet sites, today I got first serious call. An old lady who used to own consumer electronics store 20 years ago, called, saying that she has a pile of new, unpacked boomboxes, walkmans, radios, even telephones etc. at her home, in a closet, all wrapped up, as leftovers after she closed the store. :w00t: :w00t: :w00t: :w00t: :w00t:

I was trying not to sound excited  and asked her to check up for the brands and models so I can look up on the net.

After 30 minutes of waiting I called her back as we've agreed, but she doesn't speak German (she said they were all imported from Austria), so reading labels and model marks turned into "Warning, danger of electric shock... Do not open... 220V....FM stereo cassette player...".

It ended with agreement that her daughter who visits her every couple of days makes a list and than forward it to me.

I hope they are not eggs.

I hope they are not far Asian noname brands.

I hope I don't end up like forum member with uncle's bargain garage sale.

:agree: Ooooooooo, a mystery & detective novel all rolled up into one...

With boomers at the end instead of a cheezy ending.

Break out the kettle corn & the hot buttered rum! :-D

Any update on this?
Nope. She haven't contacted me since yesterday. The suspense Is killing me too.

Woke up today with "There's a lady who's sure, all that glitters is gold..." echoing in my head

I think that's a bad sign

She called yesterday, but gave me no info. Apparently her daughter didn't come or wouldn't make the list or photos for her.

Now she says "when my grandson visits me for holidays, he'll do it". That would mean waiting till January, so I suggested that she asks anyone to make at least pics and send them to me. :-/

Sorry for this spoiler, but that's the situation at the moment.

OK, well, be patient and it's possible amazing things will happen!

Last year our good member Glucifer ended up stumbling across a MONSTER haul in private hands that ended up being the biggest haul of all last year!

These things do happen...just be patient

This whole "grandson" stuff isn't going my way really. He is on university, and will likely check the value on the eBay, so I'd like to get it done before he arrives. :annoyed:

I tried to get at least some info from her, but all she could do was to describe those bboxes, like: "this one is big, white, has a carrying handle... " and than when I interrupted her and asked about the appearance, asking if they are egg-like or boxy, she says boxy, no CD, just radio and deck. Sounds like a teaser prank-call  but she is really an old clueless lady. :bang:

All the people who have answered my ads are very aged. The other day some grandpa said "I have one Crown", than after few minutes it really turned out to be a Crown, but from 1960 or so. The other one tried to convince me how his almost new egg is better than boxy ones.

BTW, I've found two expired ads from last year, fixed price, no auction - Sharp VZ-2000 for 20 euros, and Conion C100F for 70 euros because the deck door were missing. :'-( Someone got really lucky. :bang:

Why are you messing around with photos, description, etc? Just go and get them (or pass if they are eggs). Grandma is not going to photo and do the internet thing... and the more people get involved, the more opinions, etc. Just go already.

I'm semi-disabled, otherwise I'd travel and visit flea markets, but I'd never trade my emotions and memories of the 80s, for physical health.

No need for apologies guys, I haven't mentioned it before, so you couldn't have known. ;-)
