Hi,

My name is Bill. I am new here. I apologize if it is blasphemy to ask a question about a jobsite radio here. I know it is not a true boombox. :)

My problem:
I have a Porter Cable jobsite radio (Model # PC18JR).

I have owned it for several years. It does not get used often. I turned it on recently and got no volume from the speakers. The volume knob is the same knob that turns the unit on and off. From the off position, you have to turn the knob clockwise to power the unit on (you will hear/feel a click at this point). Continued clockwise turning of this knob increases the volume. The knob will turn the unit on and off, however, I get absolutely no sound from the speakers - no humming, no crackling, nothing - dead silence.

I know the unit is powering on because the display will light up when powered on and change channels using the appropriate buttons.

My limited research:
I opened the radio up. I did not see any disconnected wires. Nothing looked disconnected. I saw no "burns" on any of the internal boards. The unit has two speakers. Both speakers are dead silent.

The combination power/volume control knob:

The board destinations for the wire bundle that originates at the power/volume knob:

I am guessing something is wrong with the combination power/volume control knob. Maybe it needs to be cleaned?? Purely a guess. Can anyone give me any hints as to what may be the problem?

Thank you very much for any help you might offer,
Bill
