Finally got to listen to it today. That's what I'm talking about!!!!  That is the style of music that I was making back in the mid-1980s. Classic B-boy track. The laser sound came through a little too loud for me, but overall a really nice track.

What vocoder (or plugin) are you using?

yeah i left the lazer on normal 808 volume, i know its loud.

it was meant to be loud.

i will make more tests, and if it comes out to expressive i will take down the voulme a bit.

ah ok, about the vocoder,

i am using a very basic one i used back in the 90s.

Cylonix .

I sometimes use others that integrate with the Sequencer itself , such as the Mda vocoder,

and another one i use cant recall the name. and then use one track for the vocals/mod and one instrument for

the carrier ( where i can play the notes i want ). whereas using cylonix i cannot do that integrated with the sequencer.

i first have to make the vocal with the track, then turn on the Program ( CYLONIX ), then i tune it to the song

( maybe playing in back ground in winamp ) , and record the Result. Finally I add a new track on the sequencer ,

and load the result. On that new track / sampler, i have to use SLICE sequencing,

to make it Synchronized to the track ( i had made the vocals synch to the track BPM though too ),

but it makes it synch , and I can add those little denotations that make it more robotic.

repeating sylables, etc. I Splice the Vocoder result, and the i make the result as you hear.

Its kinda hard work but fun. Cylonix also lets you load you own carrier WAVE but I used the inboard

TONE for that sound. For making the voice / modulator , i sometimes sing / talk to the beat of the song,

but this time i used a SPEECH synthesizer, that is normally used for sight impaired people,

called 2nd speech center. I kinda made it talk as fast as the beat, then used it on CYLONIX,

and finally loaded it on the SEQUENCER Sampler.

and here we go

you made tracks too?

you gotta show me?

amiga 500?

c64?

I used to make MOD's in PC , back in 93, thats how i got started.

with Fast Tracker I.

I had completely forgotten about the old Cylonix vocoder. Wow! That was quite a few years ago. I recently found the Eiosis ELS vocoder, which is supposed to be the best plugin to achieve the same sound as the old EMS-5000 vocoder. The EMS-5000 was believed by many to be the vocoder for the Cylons on the original Battlestar Galactica. I can't wait to try out the ELS!!

Way back in the day, all my music was created with some, or all, of the following:

Roland TR-606
Roland TR-626
Casio SK-1
Radio Shack mixer
Sears component stereo (for the turntable)
Tascam Porta-05 (4-track recorder)

Eventually added (with the help of some friends):

Ensoniq EPS-16
Ensoniq VFX-SD
Casio MT-240
Boss SE-50 (the vocoder function on this was not good)
Roland D-20
Roland R-8
Alesis Midiverb II

I and my friends haven't done much since 1993, but some of our stuff is still around on old cassettes. However, the really early stuff is gone forever. I'll upload some of the remaining music when I get a chance.

i like to make music. too bad i cant live off of making music.

( the world is a strange place )
