If you came here from the other thread in Collections - Sharp VZ-3000 , VZ-3500 , great , if you`re just curious here`s the skinny on these vintage marvels..These speakers are unique , especially in the sound level output for such a low wattage speaker.. Read on ..the Pentron 5`s look alot like the Bose 901 series, but loaded quite differently- they were manufactured exclusively for Rich Brack audio in Toronto in 1968 in limited numbers. They have in the front , 4 alnico tweeters in each , and one rear firing 10 inch rubber surround long throw woofer in each. Turns out these speakers were manufactured what was back then a fledgling company that later became Altec Lansing..These speakers are only , 30 watts rms each - and they shake the house with my current low power Hitachi Receiver , only 22 watts per channel. Even at very low volume , the sound is clear and bass very defined. When given extra power near the upper register of the receiver, they begin to break up , or distort if you will , but it is smooth sounding , not clipping type. It seems to enhance the sound quality..

The speakers were originally manufactured to pair up with low power Marantz Receivers , like the 2015 - 15 watts per channel - matched with the right speakers these receivers kicked if any of you have heard them you know they sounded at least 3 times the power that was claimed..

Just an FYI for anyone interested in vintage home audio gear..

Very cool. Love the multi-tweeter setup with rear firing sub. That's quality. Are those 3" tweeters? Seems a little odd though. Gotta have mid range capabilities. Does that crossover split the mids and highs? Mid freq on left high freq on right maybe? Very interested in this setup. Simple but solid design.

Hi GZ , the tweeters are2.5 inches each , and are all connected in series- you can see the wire that feeds, then returns to the crossover- they may very well be midrange tweeters but I can tell you the mids are not lacking whatsoever....
