Another interesting piece spotted among regional ads (Europe). Mint, fully functional, never opened, with original sticker on tape door.

Fixed price only 18 euros! Seams totally unreal.

No, I haven't..There are other boxes on same online ads, and seller could have seen that he could have easily sold it at least for 3 or 4 times greater price instantly. Another thing that is suspicious, and main reason why I haven't bought it, is that he insists that he isn't selling it without testing in front of the buyer.

In other words, seller insists that a buyer must come into his place, no shipping, not even within same town. Testing is common procedure for very expensive HI-FI, hi-end pieces, but it is usually the buyers who insist on testing.

He obviously isn't some old grandpa unaware of at least approximate value, because he had put on sale a Suzuki bike for 1000e, skies etc. I'll hold back what I think this is, because I might be wrong, but when stranger insists that buyer, most likely a collector, must come into completely unknown person's house or apartment, than it is something I'm staying away from.

What we need here is professional opinion of THAFUZZ :police:

Perhaps the seller had a bad experience with selling and shipping a radio only to have the buyer say that the radio is broke/doesn't work and wants his money back.

I can't count how many times I've bought locally from strangers from ads like these. Just take a few friends along with you if you feel uneasy about it.

I can understand that, but he is simultaneously limiting his chances to only those willing to travel to his town, while the price shouts "urgent".
Also, even if it would get damaged during shipping, refunding a bit or even returning 18 euros to a buyer wouldn't be a catastrophe.

To sum it up, if he had put some realistic price, the demand for testing and personal pickup would seam logical. This way it isn't.

I don't think it's illogical.

Marbe the seller has made bad experience shipping items because they were damaged or the buyer claimed the state was not as described.
Most likely he is not into boomboxes, if else he wouldn't sell, especially not for this price. Maybe he doesn't see a point in shipping an item he sells for only a few bucks. Packing a boombox may appear wasteful of effort to him.
Lastly letting potential buyers come over is the most convenient type of selling things. You don't want to waste time and effort when you're willing to let an item go for 18€.

My opinion: Get it if it's not too far from you. Take someone with you.

And then sell to me

It is still unsold, which somehow verifies my suspicions, at least other interested people are staying away too. 60 views and no buys.

I've sent him the message on the site where he has put the ad, to ask if he would ship locally. Local shipping costs less than 5 euros, while costs for fuel for a passenger car, to his town and back, although it is 55 miles away, are approximately 30 euros. That makes the price at least 60 euros for anyone out of his town, and he could have sold it by now for that price, but he haven't done so even for 18 euros.

:hmmm:

Seller probably doesn't want the hassle of packing it up, dealing with claims etc... Trust me on this.... if the person doesn't "want" to ship, they will likely do a horrible job of packing it. It will likely get destroyed in transport.

I prefer to sell electronics in person. Buyer can see, smell it, test it, etc....

Tell him you will bring D-cell batteries and a tape for testing..., and have him meet you at the parking lot of the nearest Aldi or Bahnhof. And bring a friend.

Seller says that it is sold, although he haven't removed the add, not even marked it as sold.

He confessed himself that he realized too late that his price was too low. Than I've asked him if he knows how low it was, he replied with "no", and than I've told him ebay price for non-mint, scratched units. I reckon his neighbors will be annoyed by his :bang:

I think that someone bought it during first hour it appeared in the ads, because it made no sense that tens of interested people were opening the ad to read full description, even before I've seen it, and that no one is buying it.

If it was really sold, someone will earn several hundreds of euros if forwarded to ebay, or we'll have a collector with a ear to ear grin.

P.S. If no one else than forum members from LA would tell you same thing I've wrote about going into stranger's house, in the notorious part of town, and that whole town is notorious. Armed gangs of teenagers shooting at each other, 24/7 armed robberies and violence on the street, heavy injuries or murders for one shot of heroine addicts that are all over.

If my description of situation is not convincing, try imagining the level of crime on the streets, and off the streets. Read this yesterday's news about local Prime Minister who is also Minister of Internal Affairs for the last 5 years, and former PR of Slobodan Milosevic, who succeeded him after his death as party leader.
