Panasonic RX-5280 - Play/record switch general question

Hi Guys,

This is a general question about the playback/record switch that is mounted on the board on most boomboxes.

So I have a Panasonic RX-5280 I'm working on, I just picked it up, it's pretty clean with the black grilles.

So, my question is this. Is the record/playback switch supposed to MOVE when just playing a tape, or ONLY when recording?

My problem is Radio works perfect with equal volume from both channels, all sliders are working nicely.

I get that LOUD BUZZ noise coming from the right speaker mostly when playing a tape, BUT I thought that switch moved when you press play, not just recording.

Am I wrong, and it could still just be a dirty switch. Do radio signals go through that switch also?

Just trying to learn a little more and I can't remember if it's supposed to move when just playing a cassette.

Thanks for any and all replies, Rich

Thanks Eddy,

OK, but can it work fine with proper sound on both channels on FM, and not work fine on cassette?
Is there a 2nd set of contacts for cassette when the switch is at rest?
