If you imagine that in a Dr.Evil accent, it is way funnier!

So for my new random question to 'make ya think'....let's say you are granted a never ending supply of tax-free money. Like, every Monday morning, your bank account replenishes itself to $100k (or whatever the equivalent in your country). Sounds pretty daggum awesome right?

Yeah, right, like there wouldn't be a catch!

The only stipulation, you must give up your entire collection, every single thing related to boomboxes, including pictures and audio. You cannot ever purchase another box or walkman again. :-O EVER :-O

Would you do it? :hmmm:

:nonono: And since you boys are getting clever at ways of having your cake and eating it too, you cannot 'will' your collection to a buddy or build a shrine with your money and visit your collection every so often. In fact, you must sever all ties with the boombox community, no more meets, forums on here or S2G, no more sneak buying on ebay, nothing. nada. zip. zilch. Because by doing so, the 'free money' changes. Instead of getting a new wad of dough each week, you will only ever have $1 in your account. $1 every Monday, no matter how many hours you work, $1. Now....would you do it?

;-) Now you understand the Dr Evil, voice over

$100K every week? Hell, I'd do it for $100K every year. Hobbies come and go. Not being a slave to a job is priceless.

That's a tough one :hmmm: My ex wife once asked me if I would get rid of my collection to keep her. Well I told her yes but in my heart I knew I couldn't. She would always say that I care more about the bbx's than her. I would explain to her that if we had a fire or something, and kids were home, I would get kids out 1st then get her out, then any animals and most likely my boxes would perish :-O that would suck but it was true!!! So in all seriousness I can't answer that question until 1st installment is put into my account :-D

Am I allowed to buy the Boombus and have a DJ play me a continuous medley of 80's classics?

Am I the only one who thinks money is NOT the most important thing?

This hobby has brought me to great people and some of them became my new friends and I am really happy with that.
Money is just paper or a number on your bank account. Nothing that makes you happy.
I am constantly broke at the end of the month but I spend the money on things I like and that make me happy.
That is why I work and earn it.
I do NOT work to keep it all on my account...some savings might be helpful some day but for now, I am 19 yeras old and happy with what i have

That's kinda the point, you would never be broke again, BUT you could not continue to spend money on one of the things that you like. Not really so much a question of money being important as it is your collection being important.

Hobbies do come and go, but usually, they fade away, not just disappear all at once (especially not at your own choosing). How hard would it be to make the decision to give it all up in an instant?

nice thread mrs fatdog --

i truly deeply LOVE my box collection --
and the friends i have so enjoyed here-

but...every year --bout this time --we have severe hurricane threats --
so --i am often burdened with the prediction of losing all the boxes ., my computer
my roof , my trailer -- everything

so , to me -- its not the money -
but its the reality that all this is temporary -
and can only last ---- as long as it lasts

as of THIS very moment -
there is a dim forecast of a cat # 2 cane --direct hit --at my boxes :'-(  :sadno:

------------------------------

my best case prayer/scenario --
is now that it misses my place by 6 miles and - instead..
GETS RAMONS SHACK

 :-P

:hmmm: :hmmm: I certainly didn't know that there was a boombus :hmmm: :hmmm: Techincally, it is a vehichle, so as long as your bbx collection isn't hid in the storage compartments, then yes, you may buy the boombus  But only if you promise to take a tour to all the members for a party.....starting with Middle TN of course
:dj-party:

I would do it as long as I can still see the guys I met here in a boombox-free environment, cause' I would never sell friends. Boomboxery is a hobby to me, a great one - I love my boomboxes and I love taking them out as often as possible - but boomboxery is by far not the most important thing in my life. The most important [strike]thing[/strike] in my life are people, friends and family.

Also, I don't collect boomboxes only because I kinda like vintage stuff, I collect them because I deeply love music and I like to have music around me at all times. I would be able to give up boomboxes/walkmans as there are other ways to have music around you. For the money I'd buy a big sound system for my place... and that boombus  But no money would make me turn my back on music altogether.

Greed for money certainly is not right and gaining as much money as possible shouldn't be anyone's goal but having a lot of money doesn't make you a bad person instantly. It's always your choice what you do with your money. I for sure wouldn't buy a friggin' huge car that sucks ten gallons a mile just because I can. I wouldn't start wearing a Rollex and silk suits. I'd rather use the money to support important social and environmental projects and things like that.

Well, this is pretty theoretical anyway, the conditions aren't entirely clear and overall it's pretty improbable. So these are just my two cents... as I somewhere up there I love my boomers but there are more important things and I would be able to live without them if I had to.

Edit:
Let me add a little real life example to complete this post:
I never feel bad when I miss a flea or a very interesting ebay auction because I'm hanging out with friends. I'll say "Aw, that M90 was a good offer" or "Man, that Conionwas hot, too bad I didn't get it" but spending a day with friends means more to me than any boombox.

hey reli --
yup- we have a big air conditioned storage place --about 5 miles inland -
but --its just a metal building -
and prolly cant take any sustained 100 mph winds --
those roofs blow away -- fast !!!
---------------

anyway - the point is -
that ... everything -- boxes , friends , etc is to be enjoyed for the moments we still have them
:-)
