My dad had a vw camper in the 80's and I loved it...but one Saturday he drove off in it and didn't come back until the next day...in a Porsche 911...that was his midlife crisis started! the Porsche wasn't quite as practical a family car for a family of 5!

Wow :w00t: ...I love them when they're fully restored and like new but I think I like them just as much in their pre-restored state! I'm not sure it's fair you having two though! :nonono:

Man I love the old Beetle. As a matter of fact Jeannie's dad drove nothing but German made cars when we were kids, including Beetles and Porsches. I new every time her dad was home because the Beetle would be parked in front of house :-)

On Sundays I would always see him out driving his Gold Porsche 911....

Jeannie said they even went to Canada one summer in the 911. Jeannie and her sister sat in the tiny back seat and sweated there A$$es off because of the heat from rear engine...LOL

I will try and get some pics :-)

We used to have 3 of us in the back of the 911...it was hell...the one in the middle didn't even have a seat and would've rolled around all over the place if we hadn't been so jammed in. My dad later crashed it backwards through some Armco

I think you refer to the event 125 Jahre Kurfürstendamm where they blocked Berlin's main boulevard for a whole weekend to display some nice oldtimers :-) .
That was last year and I was there on both days. It was pretty cool but the public was just not car-show-approved
A beautiful BMW Isetta was damaged by some idiot who just KICKED against it and left a big dent :'-( :'-( :'-(
I am so glad Herbie made it out without any damage but I had to stay with him all the time...kids jumping on the running boards, pulling on the door handles like crazy...
and what did the parents say? "You have to pull harder, it's an old car!" :dunce: :annoyed:
Ah well, it was great fun but normal car shows are nicer.
The pic from the big stage was taken in Hannover at the biggest aircooled VW meeting  . The trip of 300km was so worth it!

by brother in law built a "door slammer" dragster out of this old bug

Notice the 1971 bay window camper to the left (and me in the reflection!)

It now looks like this

He then built a Karmann Ghia Razor edge dragster as well
Still uses Aircooled power - and demolishes V8's (it does high 7's)
