Hi all...

Today i played some sweet music on my M90. After a while i make it a lil bit louder.
Then i heard a fluttering sound. When i turn the volume louder it is fluttering more louder.
So i take off the Backcover to see what is wrong.
And that is what i have found.... :'-(

Rubber cement from behind for a quick fix. Ask around to see who has another speaker(s) to sell. good luck. Love the avatar by the way. Saw it on my Facebook. Wish I could attend :sadno: .

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Well, based off what Skippy has done you could try to find some Crown CZ-5100 white speakers :hmmm:

Good luck :'-(

The only way to fix it properly is to refoam it. I suggest rubber surrounds. No patch and glue is gonna hold up. The next time you crank it -- it'll probably go again.

at this point i would just glue it back together and hope for the best ,i mean wft have you got to lose .

if you decide to re do the edges i would recomend using an accordian type surround like those found on pro audio and monitor speakers like the type seen here .

or you could do what norm said and use rubber surrounds just keep in mind these will affect the sound and make the woofers look smaller and you will have to trim the outside of the cone to fit which ever surround you choose.

That is so sad :'-( :sadno:

I wish you all the best to fix her up again! I have seen her in person and she deserves to be fixed.

What a crying shame :'-( :'-( :'-(

I have successfully repaired rips like this by gluing a similar type paper to the back side of the woofer.
Now if the rest of the surround is weak you may have the same problem again.
Unless your damage was due to over driving the woofers which may in turn weakened the whole surround versus
that one small area where the tear is.

Bottom line is damage is done so try to repair first as suggested and let it dry for a good 48 hours before attempting to pump up
the jams through that M-90 again.

That is probably true since the original woofer cones are very tight and with new rubber surrounds, the woofer will be much looser and able to move more air. Can't say if the sound characteristics will be improved or not for the M90 enclosure, but I suspect it will have more deeper bass but perhaps not as tight.

On the other hand, stiffening up one side of the woofer with glue and patch will likewise affect the sound as well and the woofer won't be evenly flexible which could cause issues since the surround is supposed to center the cone in the voice coil. With it sitting still, that is not a problem. But when in operation, the dynamic affects of stiffening up 30% of the cone on only one side -- that is more unpredictable.

using any other surround on these will affect the sound

reason # 1 the cone area as it is now reaches to the very edge of the speaker frame
the new foam will decrease the cone area ,the speakers in the m90 sound the way they do because the cone area that produces mid and vocal tones spans all the way out to the speaker edge thus having a larger sound producing capability.

#2 new foams will allow the cone to move more freely thus increasing the chances of the voice coil jumping out of the magnetic gap or tearing the spider that holds the coil centered in the gap.

# 3 the woofers will distort like **** because the m90 has plenty of ass to make them jump and these woofers are meant to be tight not loose .

The only thing Floyd is that I've refoamed a few speakers where the paper cone used to stretch all the way to the flange (cheap paper cones have no true surrounds) and all I can say is that none of the issues you mentioned came to pass, and in fact, I can honestly say imho, that they sounded better than before, with NO loss of mids/highs, do NOT distort, and I've pumped them full blast. The one in my avatar sounds incredible.

I replaced the woofers in my M-90 with some foam surround woofers and it sounded MUCH better with deeper bass.
I did not re foam but I found some nice Blue Marantz woofers on Ebay.
The only drawback to my swap was the impedance was 8 ohm. so overall output volume was effected by at least 25%
These were the type I used but mine weren't messed up like this one. Fortunately I was able to score a pair and I put aluminum dust caps on
them that looked sweet
