No power from Sharp GF-575

I have a 575 that will not power up. Are the transformers prone to going on these? Also the glass fuse on the power board how do I remove that to see if that has blown. It doen't power up with a dc adapter either but not checked on batteries yet. Any other ideas would be great.

I've blown a fuse before and they just popped out like a plug fuse...then I found replacements for little money on the bay

Well i've bought some batteries and it powers up fine but the left channel is very dirty sounding and the right is almost silent. Had some switch cleaner in it but no difference? HELP!!! :'-(

In most cases a vigorous switch cleaning of radio tape function switch, balance and the long record switch solved this problem. The record switch is the one that is hardly ever used prone to lots of oxidation on contacts.

Done all that but still sounds horrible. Everything works, both cassettes correct speed, radio tunes in, speakers are ok too, just the sound. It's the same through headphones as well. The amp maybe?

If it sounds the same through headphones then we can rule out problem with bad speakers. The problem might be more complex. Do you see any discolored or swollen electrolyte capacitors? The bad ones bulge on the top if it is bad.

If it sounds the same through headphones then we can rule out problem with bad speakers. The problem might be more complex. Do you see any discolored or swollen electrolyte capacitors? The bad ones bulge on the top. Could be bad resistors or caps. Squirt the contact cleaner in the headphone jack and then insert the plug several times to clean the speaker to headphone switching contacts.
