Do you have a problem with the autostop ( does it stop in play mode at end of tape )? Do this test: see if it will rewind and forward with the pause button pressed in and engaged. I had this problem with the rewind and forward ( it would rew & ff with pause button engaged) on my M70 and it turned to be a gummed up auto stop mechanism. I also have a Goldstar tsr 580 with the same problem but haven't gotten to that boombox yet.

It sounds more like ff and Rew key don't lock down in position :hmmm: but Alberto I don't believe the pause works on ff and Rew only when play and/or record are depressed. Plus many Boomboxes auto stop only works when play/record key is set and not ff or rew unless its a full auto stop mech ;-)

hello yes it has autostop and it works well be it play or ff or rew but I don't think the pause button has anything to do with the problem
sometimes it will rewind or fast forward for 10 seconds then suddenly stops and the buttons won't lock down in position... I don't really bother since the play function works flawlessly but it would be nice to fix it anyway thanks for your answers, I will keep it like this for the moment
by the way yr Goldstar TSR 580 is the one with the black buttons, but I have another minty one on the way with... CHROME buttons!!! Yes!!
can't wait to receive it!! I'll post pics of these really nice looking and sounding twins

yes that's it, buttons don't lock down in position or just for a few seconds that's strange but seems only mechanical

True Bill, the pause button doesn't pause the tape in REW or FF. That is not what I was saying. I had two boomers that didn't want to Rew or FF unless the pause button was engaged and with the pause button engaged it would REW and FF just fine......strange. Come to find out it had to do with the auto stop mechansim being gummed up that caused the Rew and FF to stop prematurely. I cleaned and lubed the auto stop mechanism and REW and FF worked great. One of the boomers was a JVC M70. :-)

Was not saying that the pause button is the problem. All I wanted was for you to try REW and FF with the pause button pressed in and engaged and if REW and FF forward worked fine with the pause button engaged then the problem could be the auto stop stopping the REW or FF prematurely. Hey just try it. :-D

I have black knobs on my GOLDSTAR TSR 580. I think the model with chrome knobs also comes with a digital clock to right of the tape counter.

I still don't think the goldstar has full auto stop. If it says "autostop" only then only play/record will stop. If it says "full auto stop". Then all will automatically stop. I agree with auto stop being gummed up because I've seen many decks that were gummed up

As for issue with FF and Rew not locking down you may also want to check lock down itself. Could be bad spring or gummed up.
