I almost passed on a craigslist deal but got a friendly nudge from skippy to get this boomer. I am pleasantly suprised at the quality of the Sanyo M9994. I honestly didn't think it would be my kind of box, boy was I wrong. I love it!

Congratulations Joe. These are surprisingly Bassy too. Although mine is the M9990. Well worth $30 I paid for it at a thrift store. I'll offer You $35 for Yours :-D

I had a M9990 and really wasn't impressed at all. There could have been something wrong with it, who knows.

$35, nope ;)

Nice one, Joe. Looks to be in great shape.

How do these boxes sound? Whenever I spot one at a good price I'm tempted to buy because everyone seems to love them so much. But I've never pulled the trigger because the style just isn't my thing. I do like the swiveling tweeters, though.

I've posted a couple of times that I would love a 9994. It's just not in the budget right now.

Nice classic looks :-)

I have the 9990 and think this 9994 looks nicer, i always assumed the sound would be very similar :hmmm:
:agree:
I love how "bassy" the 9990 sounds, especially considering it's size.

There must have been something wrong with my M9990 when I had it.
No. When both are working the way they are supposed to, the M9994 is a far better and louder sounding boombox. According to the respective service manuals, the M9990 has 3.5w x 2, and the M9994 has 7.0w x 2. Aside from the power, the M9994 also has better tweeters and probably different woofers too. Circuits are different too from a design aspect.... M9994 has adjustable bias settings whereas M9990 has none. The M9990 doesn't even have tape speed adjustments.
